Therapy is a trigger, alternatives?

Postby Jayjay13 » Wed Aug 07, 2019 7:48 pm

Hello,
I am 25 and have ptsd. I am in Therapy since last year. Being alone with someone is a big trigger for me so it's been kind of hard to go. But i go anyway.
But my symptoms don't seem to get better and i feel like i am now less functioning than ever. I am not sure why. Does anybody know of an alternative to therapie or is it normal to get worse and i have to wait it out? I am just not sure if i am doing the right thing or not. I have a panicattack before every session, and after i am just exhausted. I really do want to recover, just don't know if i am doing it the right way or not.
If anybody has an idea, an answer would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance, Johanna.

And what does the therapist say when you tell them? What does the therapist say when you ask about alternatives?

She thinks i am better now than when i started because i understand what is happening now, and she sees that as progress. But i dont think that helps, when i cant stop whats happening. she says i cant expect to undo 23 years of bad experiences in one year. And that my reactions are normal.
we did talk about trying group-therapie a few month back, but there wasnt one available that would fit. And now its really hard to adress cause i have such anxiety that every plan i have goes out the window and i dont feel like i have much control about what we talk about because everything just happens. And my emotions are all over the place everytime.
Maybe i should try harder to communicate with her.

Yes, you should continue the current path.

It is suppose to be exhausting and invoke some degree of anxiety.

There are ZERO alternatives or therapies that cure anxiety that are anxiety free. That is the entire point. It is like going to the gym, but you hate the heavy weights, it exhausts you physically. There is no pain free path to fitness, whether physical or mental.

Pain is part of the process. Accept it. Don’t quit.

Try and work for money. Money cured me and provided me with a different life. A life full of potential, opportunities, new experiences, freedom to express myself, a new positive outlook, new people coming into my life. Money is the key that unlocks doors in real life and in the mind.
