oral presentatio

Postby Dizal » Sat Apr 30, 2016 4:43 am

Hi everyone

Please need some advice
I have oral presentation in a week time and I am panicking. I am not good at speaking even in one to one conversation and don't know how I can ever do this. Every time I do oral presentation I need up shacking and no one can hear I am talking about. I want to be able to stand up without shacking and speak loud but at this stage it seems impossible and don't know what to do. In general I am just not a good speaker, for example yesterday I was trying to discuss about group work with this girl and I couldn't even speak clearly and ended up sounding stupid. If I can't speak with one person how can I speak to group of people? I don't know what to do please healp.

Practice, practice, practice....

Make it how you spend your day.

-1- Deliberately get involved in conversations.

-2- Ask a close friend or family member to listen to your speech.

-3- Once you have asked a single friend, the next day invite over 3 friends to listen to you. Be open and honest with your friends, explain why you need their help.

This week, the more you talk, the more you practice, the better off you will be.

DO NOT: simply prepare, prepare, prepare without practice. Many speakers make that mistake. They rehearse in front of a mirror, they prepare note cards, they work on their power point, they do everything other than actually speaking in front of people. It is not that these things are not important, BUT they are secondary to actually practicing with live people, with your friends and anyone else with whom you can have a conversation. Talk, talk, talk some more this week. You will be ready.

If you can't think of a way to practice, simply go to the biggest grocery store near you and buy a few things you'll use soon.

Walk around. Practice saying hello to the people working there. For some, do more: ask for where something you'd like to buy is located, confirm you understand (repeat the gist of where to go!) and say thank you.

Then get in the longest checkout line... smile and say hello to the last person in line. Give a compliment if you can think of one.

Keep it simple. Be persistent in finding more employees to say hello to before going to pay!

Perhaps you're thinking too much in terms of wanting everything to be right immediately, where suddenly the problem's gone and you can do public speaking effortlessly. Try to think of it more as a process where you gradually build yourself up to it in stages. As someone else said, practice and plenty of it, including doing it in front of the mirror, with friends etc. First of all just one to one, then you with two people and so on.

There's no need to think you have to do it all now. Start small, build your confidence and work your way up to where you want to be with it.

Building confidence to speak in public won't happen overnight. There are many ways to plan for your presentation. See it as a long term goal in which you can build skills and techniques.
