Re: I Cannot Stop Thinking About My Professor

For now, focus on getting graduation out of the way, that is by far the more important thing. Also, of course, then you will no longer be his student and you'd be free to get in touch with him. Email would be the best way. If he replies then you'll be able to sense whether or not he might be interes...

Re: Struggling with low confidence

"How else can I make myself feel better????" By starting to make a conscious mental effort to focus less on negative aspects of you and your life and deliberately focusing more on the positive things about you, things you've done and so on. Falling into the trap of persistently thinking ne...

Re: Living with boyfriend's parents

What did your boyfriend say about this when you talked to him about it? What was his attitude about it? There's no indication as to why his family have taken this attitude - it seems unlikely that it can be just because for some reason they think that the daughter in law is the bee's knees - but if ...

Re: I've done awful things, I can't live with myself anymore

j doe578, Whatever it was that you've done, and whether or not it's actually as bad as you think it was, it will always be a part of you. Any significant memorable act good or bad will always remain in your psyche unless you lose your memory completely. Is it so bad that you'd want to lose your enti...

Re: I need some help with my irritability and moodiness

Leo, Have to say I'm not sure how "stoic fortitude" can be applied as a remedy for anger and irritability, sounds to me a bit like good old fashioned stiff upper lip type repression of feelings, but hey it's a great phrase. Just noticed your other post about anger management books. The bet...

Re: I am doing good

Learn to walk before you run, learn to run before you fly. Focus on smaller attainable goals first.

Try to see setbacks etc as learning experiences and not as confirmation that you can't do it. Keep actively visualising yourself as you want to be.

Re: Alone

There's actually nothing wrong (though nothing particularly good either) about being introverted and socially isolated - IF - you know that that is what is best for you. Instances where that is the case are extremely rare. Sounds like you're understandably uncomfortable about it even if on the surfa...

Re: Any good self-help books for confidence, etc?

Check out John Kehoe's "Mind Power Into The 21st Century." Covers all aspects of human psychology including confidence and self esteem building.

Re: Need your kind help...

L Learner, remember also that - as referred to above by AlexD - failure isn't generally conflated with "experience" but how can anyone gain experience without encountering "failure" at some point. You could easily say that the benefits of experience are the same as the benefits o...

Re: Everything is wrong.

Ok it seems that psychologically you have quite a lot on your plate right now - "like the very smallest things seem so overwhelming to me right now." " I feel like I'm being punished right now." This is telling you that most of your current problems are coming from within. That d...

Re: When is enough enough?

"I'll feel awful for not helping her, but angry if I do. It's a rock and a hard place, a double-edged sword." Clearly neither one nor the other, on its own, will resolve this for you. You can't just abandon her altogether - well of course you could but like most people would probably end u...

Re: should I leave her?

No idea if this would help or not but it does seem that the root of the problem may be connected to the sexual element of your relationship together. Ever thought about a mutually agreed, self imposed period of deliberate abstinence from sex for, say, a month or maybe a bit longer depending on the p...

Re: Is it ok for my mother to treat me like this?

Not a particularly helpful observation I suppose but one cannot help but feel that it's your mother who needs the help and advice, not so much you.

Re: How to deal with bullies?

First remember that they're only bullies because they're small minded and deep down feel inadequate themselves and are afraid that it shows. They go after people who are overweight, underweight, anything that their limited mental scope perceives as being somehow "different." If it wasn't y...
