I get embarrassed when I carry my guitar around people, why is that?

Do you have confidence in your ability as a player of the guitar? Maybe you have an underlying fear of being asked to play in public?

Maybe it's a new behavior you've not adapted to as yet. You might feel like you're different when you carry the guitar.

If you want to change this feeling, you might come up with an affirmation that makes you feel better about carrying the guitar.

Same reason you would get embarrassed for wearing or carrying anything that you consider to be outside a social norm. For example, if you were to wear a silly hat or carry a surf board. Same reason people feel normal wearing a costume on halloween, but feel socially conscious wearing that same costume any other week of the year.

If you want to reduce feeling awkward, carry the guitar more often. Carry it all over the place. The embarrassment will fade.

Some social construct in your head. Nobody really cares. I walk in the street, i see a guy with a guitar. Cool, guitar, i think. And i go on.
Don't look for anything more there.

I assume that people around you have made negative statements about guitar so now you don't really feel proud when people see that you play guitar , you feel like you want to hide it

I know how that feels because something similar has happened to me before I was kinda not proud of walking the dog because where I live most of people are no dog fans, and I was getting lots of negative statements like every week someone was telling me something like : dog smells dog do this, dog do that, so much of effort trying to lead me to quit on my DOG but they never made such effort to lead me quit SMOKING ,that is extreme stupid

but what you should understand is that, its not up to other people to decide for me or you if something is cool or not, I decide that for myself if its cool I love dogs and I am proud to walk a pack of dogs even when others try to change how I feel about that, I will show them how they are supposed to feel about dogs, I will show the love, the excitement the love and everything that they are missing and the best way to show them is when they see me enjoy

people do with these negative statements they try to change how you feel about guitar, how you feel about the dog about a friend, about your wife, about your job , they will always try to give a negative touch maybe unconsciously or whatsoever is that, but is up to you to protect your important things in life, how you feel about them and not allow someone else to add negative feelings there

guitar is cool man, its something you should feel proud about , its something you should love, the creativity and all that, you should not allow someone else to make you feel negative about it, you should feel good about it and show to the people how you are supposed to feel about the guitar,

You haven't provided enough information for us to help you. But if you feel embarassed, then it's because you're afraid.
