Would You Date Your Best Friend's Ex-Boyfriend / Girlfriend?

Postby Reflection Line » Thu Jan 30, 2020 2:56 pm

Many people will say that It's never OK to date your friend's ex because going after your friend’s ex is off-limits and fully violates any type of guy or girl code by which you might abide. But every once in a while, the universe speaks to a person and lets him know that, although it seems wrong at first, there might be a bigger reason your friend dated this person in the first place – maybe it was to connect the two of you, instead. Such a situation, of course, can be tricky and must be handled with care. What do you think?

I think dating your best friend's ex is never okay. Ditto a sibling's ex, or any other relative's ex, or the ex of anyone at all who's been a long-term presence in your life.

The universe speaks, huh? Are you sure it's not your gonads talking?

Any notion that 'the universe' wants you with a particular person, that it's written in the stars, that you were 'meant' (by whom?) to be together or any other new-age claptrap get-out clause shows an appalling lack of imagination. That kind of lunatic thinking has been used to justify all kinds of atrocities.

So you want to date your best friend's ex. At least be honest about it, and don't fool yourself it really can't be helped because it's your destiny.

I wouldn't do it because it would end that friendship. If the relationship ends with your destiny partner, which rarely last because they start off idealised, then you still lose your friend. Your choice but your consequences to accept.

Ya I think its a no go if you value your friendship. Even if your friend says they are ok with it, it will always be awkward in some form----and I duno what if your friend ends up wanting to be with the ex or vise versa as you all are hanging out? I duno sounds like it would get messy. If your friend like lives outta state, might be different but if you all are close and regularly hang out, then no--unless your friend dated the person for like a week and was totally not into that person....
