Quit date 15/1/22(17:28) journal

Postby Satbal82 » Sat Jan 15, 2022 10:31 pm

I've decided to stop weed finally after 20 years of smoking daily.
It's consuming my life and I'm not sure how to quit as I've tried so many times with no success.

I'm hoping keeping a blog or journal will help and have never posted my experience of quitting in a journal.

I will keep this updated on a daily basis or every other day. Please feel free to support it advise as I will really need it.

Thanks
Sat

Best of luck on your quit mate! This is a great place to share your story. I’ve smoked for similar amount of time and over the past 9 years have managed periods of abstinence but never stuck it out. Completely understand that it’s become all consuming, it’s a hard process to get through but many people on here have managed it. Just out of interest do you smoke weed woth tobacco?

Hi mate, yeah I use a small amount. Was vaping weed for a year but went back to joints as it just wasn't the same.

Thanks for the support. Day 1 is nearly over and the urge to use normally comes in the evening so just have to ride it out

I always went to bed early doors because why stay up thinking? Get through each day and accept it will challenge you, but you can rise above it. Best wishes

Yes it's going to be a bit tricky as I smoked normally from around 8-1130 and then eventually fall asleep. Thank you for the message. I'm hoping to get in bed by 10 and get to bed pronto

Update as of 18/1/22
Caught a cold yesterday and had a really crap day at work. Stressed out and in my weak moment I decided the only way I would feel better is to have a smoke. Cycle continues again and used pretty much all day.

Woke up knowing that again I'm back to square one. Rather than giving up and smoking all week I've decided to reset and make today again my day 1.

I know I just have to get day 1 done and I'll be ok. I won't relapse again. I will out it down to having a cold and stressed. I just need to learn to get through this day

Don’t sweat on it or beat yourself up mate. These habits we form over years and are tough to overcome. Only yesterday I was having serious horrible arguments with my wife and just thought ‘sod it’ im going to get some gear and get blasted cos that will make me
Feel less pissed off. Thing is it wouldn’t I would just end up stoned and pissed off!

Quitting can take more than one go for some people. Steven Stevenpearce makes a really important point... getting angry, stressed or whatever the emotion and thinking a spliff will make any difference other than just getting you stoned, is a thinking error. You are now having to manage your feelings and emotions without the crutch.... give yourself time and acceptance. Just keep making good choices and you will get there.

The last few days have followed a similar pattern. In the morning I'm sure that today I will not smoke, have thrown the rizlas away and feeling good.

As the evening comes I'm feeling tired down and completely forget the fact that I want to stop smoking. Convinced that I enjoy smoking and need to have my regular smoke.

The motivation I have is gone by the evening and I wake up regretting smoking.

Today I will get to bed early and not even give it a chamc to cross my mind.

I also have elderly parents who I visit every weekend and hate the fact that i may have withdrawal symptoms and may not feel happy when visiting them for the next few months. This puts me off stopping as they don't know I smoke but the know it needs to be done.

Consider the psychology of “ego depletion”. Early in the day you have full mental resources. Later in the day, having spent mental energy on avoiding smoking and life in general, it is normal to give in to temptation.

There are several strategies to help with ego depletion.

22/1/22

After an up and down week last week of getting sick I am resetting today and making today day 1.
I find that when I have structure in the evening I can get through it but my willpower is weakest at evening.

I'm going for 90 days target after which I will stop counting and I'm sure the habit will be broken.

In my experience (not generic) quitting weed is always been cold turkey, never with the same daily life style cycle & most difficult part is getting through first 2 days. It all depends how badly you want it.

Every time quitting, I took several days off, accepting that I will get hit hard with withdrawals. Change of environment and keeping busy especially during evenings and nights, never trying to sleep unless body forces me to whether its night or day. Not much socializing but being out at comfortable place a lot. in summary, giving quitting importance and planning next few days mitigating symptoms has been important for me as I know I am recovering from a disease. After few days when cloud settles, going back slowly to the daily routine.

Everyone's situation is different but expecting changes doing the same thing may not be a good idea. Hope you plan enough to get through first 2-3 days by any means.
