Any Self Loving Practices?

Postby Ais2000 » Mon Jun 13, 2016 11:36 pm

Hi,
I'm wondering if anyone has any practices that work for them to feel better. I'm looking for things that would not cause any emotional suppression, but would bring you closer to self love. What works for you?
Thanks :)

Slightly dubious about your use of the term "self love" there, but I think I know where you're coming from.

If what you're really thinking about is self esteem then begin monitoring your thought processes in such a way that you learn to stop negative thoughts about yourself in their tracks and instead learn to focus on your plus points, strengths, achievements, successes etc. You can't do this completely and entirely all the time but with practice and a conscious mental effort eventually the balance will tip in favour of positive over negative and you'll find yourself naturally tending towards thinking positively about yourself, in general.

I'm sharing practices that work for me on my youtube channel -- this week I made one titled "Experiencing joy simply, right now" that may help you get started. (I haven't figured out how the url's work at youtube but I searched for it by title then copied what came up here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r3_dp8pWQ6s)

Here is a list of things you can do at home and which are costless but valuable too to do!

1. treat yourself after ever task you do!
Regardless if it is big or small task, have small or big treats!
2. have goals!
During those goals ensure to have smaller goals of what you need to accomplish within that specific and after accomplishing those small goals treat yourself! and this is where step 3 comes in!
3. Satisfaction from positive self talk
when you have accomplished those goals or any task it doesn't have to be goals don't finish it off by saying nothing to yourself a simple self loving treat would be i know i can do this and then, next time when you want to love yourself you know where to look! Yourself
4. Cleaning yourself (taking a shower or cutting nails)
5. Lookin in the mirror feeling and saying i am awesome!

you could become big headed with these practices so therefore don't always look in the mirror and look for things about yourself that you can fix which one will see bt notices! - also being humble to oneself

One thing that brings me way closer to self-love is to simply sit down and talk to myself when I'm alone. I have a conversation with myself, this helps me increase my confidence in expressing myself and gradually increases my social eptitude with others. When I can communicate effectively with other people, I become more confident and self-loving as well. I consciously note any negative thoughts and transform them into something constructive and that way I can learn a lesson from whatever I am feeling.

I also practice mindfulness and meditation. Meditation isn't something voodoo or mystical it's literally just sitting still for a couple minutes or so letting your thoughts come about and diverting your attention to the present moment instead by focusing on your breathing. Deep breathing helps develop more confidence because unconfident people are usually not vocal and unexpressive and this is due to unconscious shallow breathing and tightening of the diaphragm.

There are many youtube tutorials that assist in deep breathing and meditation. This will help you clear your mind and focus on what really matters and your heart and mind will take care of it on its own.

Goal setting (as mentioned above) is also a very effective form of practice to increase self love. It means you are signifying your own importance and wants and doing so programs your subconscious mind help you truly love yourself.

Best of Luck. Hope this helped.

If I'm ever feeling low about myself, I like to read stories of people who felt similarly, but slowly pulled themselves out.
