Self hypnosis Not fully working

Postby umairlooms » Fri Dec 04, 2015 5:09 am

hi everyone

I have been practicing self hypnosis to deal with anxiety and stress, as well as for weight management. However the results seem to 'wear off' rather quickly, and often I have 'off days'.

can anyone tell me if it is normal? I used to get hypnosis sessions with the best hypnotist in my country, and even then it used to be similar.

I am more concerned about my weight management issue and this is where I am trying to control my physiology, something I am trying for the first time.

What type of cycle? You keep 10 pounds off for a month or 2 pounds for a week? How much time spent in self-sessions?

Hi Richard

No, its not 'yo yo ing' of my weight that bothers me. Its waking up and eating and night. Sometimes totally out of control. It is not effecting my weight too much but I have been trying to test self hypnosis against this issue of mine.

I usually hypnotise myself 2-3 times a week, for 10-15 mins, and I believe this is too much, as I had once upon a time thought that hypnosis creates permanent changes [at least in some cases].....however I am having to question myself on this now.

Sounds like binge eating as a result of ego depletion (willpower). Hypnosis takes effort. Not just the 2-3 x 10-15, but the effort to self-regulate throughout the day. In this sense, the act of hypnosis might actually be counterproductive.

I suspect you're treating a symptom, and not the cause. It's like you're taking regular cough drops and wondering why your cough isn't going away, while the cold that causes your cough goes untreated.

To make progress, you should identify the belief that's limiting you. Do you exercise? Do you eat healthy? If not, why not? A number of beliefs could be hurting you here: maybe you feel like it's too much work? maybe you're afraid of change? Identify the belief holding you back, and treat the belief, not the weight gain.

For two years have been practicing hypnosis at least once a day. Only now I have become good enough to experience consistent effects. It's probably because I have been using VR for the last four months. But yeah that's still four months! Not exactly over night is it?

It's possible that VR could be far more effective for you since I have a VIVE and have been using my parents old phone the Samsung Galaxy S7 with gear VR which doesn't allow y you to change it's inter pupuliary distance which is bad cause my head is very big which causes obvious problems with eye spacing. This causes things to look blurry in VR. I go into the theatre app and simply play my spiral hypnosis file so it looks like I'm starring a moving spiral as big as a large wall.

I agree with Saladinsmith. Identifying the belief leads to progress. For many years, I found it necessary to limit foods I ate. I had an avoid list that grew over time. Lately, I find that I am satisfied with smaller portions and able to eat more variety. Even when I eat (junk) foods from the avoid list I know when I have had enough. Instead of eating the whole bag, box, or package at one time, I am beginning to find that after consuming a small amount, it no longer appeals to me. It is worth the work when you find yourself moving in a new direction.

Eixan, the first time I read your post, I thought it was just confusing. The second time I read it I thought, ok, some of this makes sense. The more I thought about it, the more I end up with a workable metaphor for me. It works for A missing link B in more than one way. Including but not limited to when a and b are before and after. At one level it works on the xy model. And it also works for: over time I was presented with a series of metaphors. Remove the source and then looking back I can see they were metaphors, although I did not think of them that way at the time. And I can see how they were skewed in a particular direction. Easy enough to say that is messed up as a metaphor, and rework how I see it. The last metaphor, though, was not only skewed like the previous ones presented in that way, but it combined another concept that had been presented using a different series. Now they were combined, and I missed the new level that had been added in, actually it was added in by leaving something out. Because your metaphor is more complete, now I see what was missing in that flawed metaphor. I can even say using my interpretation of your metaphor to view the processes I am using, is helping me understand how "it" works. And there is more than one possible "it". I hope this makes sense, but if not, just take it as your post makes a lot of sense to me and works for me, THANKS.
