groundhog day syndrome

Postby [email protected] » Tue Mar 30, 2004 11:47 am

hi, does anyone know of a sleep disorder/dream phenomenon where a person dreams that they've woken up and go through the start of their daily routine only to wake up from that dream and go through their daily routine, only that was also a dream. they get up and go through the daily routine, only to wake up again, but this is also a dream, until eventually they actually wake up.
i'm sure i saw a documentary on it, but can't find any info on this particular condition
thanks

Hi there nevergain Groundhog day was a great film by the way :D

What you describe is a fairy common reported type of dream-although I don't think it is recognised as a condition as such. Take a look at http://www.uncommon-knowledge.co.uk/und ... reams.html for a fuller look at the dreaming process.

I dont know of any particular phenomenom but it does seem that some dreams have the potential to get into this kind of loop.

When I was a teenager a troubled friend of mine had the following dream night after night for weeks. I still feel spooked when I think about it.

He is in a mortuary, pulls open one of the drawers and it is a tank of formaldehyde rather than just a table. In the tank is a body. He peers in and then makes out that it is himself in the tank, he then notes a flicker of life in the eyes of the body, the face is smiling, as he goes closer the face turns to panic and looks straight past my friend at something behind him, he then turns to see what the horror is and there is another copy of himself behind him, very angry, this self then pushed the first self into the tank - next view is from the bottom of the tank, looking up at himself looking down in the tank - panic, push, splash, look panic push splash.......

Talk about perceptual positions....
