hypnosis - erasing memory of initiation of anxiety/phobia.

Postby AyeshaUsman » Wed Apr 20, 2016 1:41 am

Hello everyone!

I may not be able to explain it clearly as my brain is severely groggy from having slept for mere 30-36 hours in the past 4 months.

From intense speculation of my problem and from talking to people with chronic insomnia lasting for decades on end, I have to come to an understanding that it's only an 'idea' an idea that one 'can't sleep un-aided' that makes insomnia persist.

On this idea, piles up the debilitating anxiety. It's very similar to having an anxious episode thinking of having anxiety. A vicious cycle that never breaks.
We begin to identify ourselves with anxiety and hence it's difficult to make it loose its grip. Knowing for a fact if I do not overcome a my SEVERE sleep anxiety, I might loose my congitive functioning in the next few months, I am desperate to look for a way. Pills don't work as I fight myself to have natural sleep.

I have always been a good sleeper. However, after the onset of insomnia 5 months back, I developed a phobia around it which needs to undone. It's very similar to acrophobia or any other phobia. Except it's dreading going to bed knowing you're anxiety will barre you from sleep. Fear of not being able to sleep' > and the fear/idea doesn't let you sleep.

I wanted to know if there is anyone who can offer their help to help me erase the idea of ever having the onset of Sleep Anxiety. Erase the idea that I ever 'Feared going to sleep'. .Im sure it is possible. I have seen hypnotists help people overcome their phobia's or help them erase the memory of a particular event/person. Im sure I can get my thoughts manipulated enough to forget I ever had insomnia/anxiety. Once that happens, the cycle stops.
(Please excuse my english as it isn't my first language)

Also, I have tried manipulating my thoughts through self-suggestion but it is not helping and only increases the anxiety. Then the anxiety starts revolving around 'What if I fail at convincing myself'

( I do not have any other general anxiety issues. )
Hope you all have a beautiful day.

It sounds like a good idea, but I'm not sure you'll find someone to help you here. Try googling "hypnosis chat" and asking at a few of those links.

@SaladinSmith. Could you help me? I don't have any hypnotists around me. I am basically looking forward to a disabling life. I read your comment on another forum where you suggested you could perform hypnosis to help people eliminate their memory of something tragic.
Also, Can you please get me contact any hypnotist around. Anyone who can help. I can't emphasize enough. And I am way to embarrassed to say it almost makes me feel suicidal. When you don't sleep, you don't function. I am sick of the panic attacks.

You may be responsive to erasing your fear of going to sleep, but insomnia is usually an indication (a symptom) of stress, anxiety or depression. Treat these, address any sleep hygiene issues and the sleep will take care of itself.

Here are some suggestions: http://www.clinicalhypnotherapy-cardiff ... _problems/

I'm not a professional by any means. I mostly do recreational hypnosis. I'm not licensed to do hypnotherapy, so if I did it, it would be illegal in the area where I live. I do know a lot about hypnotherapy because several of my friends and my mother are hypnotherapists, and I've done a lot of reading about it, but I myself am not.

I don't think that just erasing memory would help here. Lots of people suppress memories of the things they fear. That doesn't remove the fear -- just the memory of the inciting incident.

However, a good hypnotist will be able to take you under and identify what is causing your problem, and then tackle it more directly.

Ideally you'd find a hypnotherapist in person, but if there are no hypnotists in your area, or you can't afford it, you might be able to find someone on hypnochat or sleepychat.

Are you a Doctor? Have you studied oriental medicine? What is your background? This isn't a joke. I am serious about looking for someone involved in this field. Without knowing more about you, I am hesitant to send an email or give any further information.
