Just Started Having Severe Panic Attacks

Postby rainingforest » Thu Feb 07, 2019 6:24 pm

I have been having stomach problems for 5 months. The doctors couldn't find anything even after a CT with contrast, a urine test, a heart damage test, and every bloodwork out there.

Now to 4 days ago. It was 9:45 at night, and I started to get a headache. Then I got really bad anxiety and couldn't stop moving. After 10 minutes, it changed into a panic attack. I felt like crying and I was running to the bathroom, thinking I needed to go (the symptoms mimic having a full bowel). I've had some anxiety my whole life, so I have learned to ignore it. I convinced myself nothing was wrong. But I STILL have the panic attacks. They have been occuring 2 - 3 times a day now, and I have generalized anxiety all day. My head feels really tense and I just can't eat without feeling like I'm going ot have another panic attack.

I KNOW this is most likely all in my head, but I can't seem to control it. Any suggestions? I have to wait a month before I see a psychiatrist.

There are all sorts of chemicals, toxins, hormones, etc. in today's "foods" . . . these, I can assure you, are affecting your psychological well being.

Hi rainingforest,

Your post sounds very familiar to me. Yes, the anxiety can and does mimic physical pathology and many of us end up in the doctor's surgery when it gets bad.

It sounds like you are in crisis at the moment and in this spot I have found relaxation tapes to be helpful, particularly slow breathing. It may not work immediately but worth trying a little longer, until the body feels heavier and we slow down. Another tip is mindfulness, as the Buddhists practice, to reduce the worry.

I've also experienced problems with food, as you describe. Eating little and more often can help, and cutting out stimulants like coffee for a while.

These are just suggestions, and I hope you find a way to ease the anxiety. It might be some comfort to know that you are not alone.

Good thoughts,

Alex.

It has been awhile since you posted. But, wanted to share I have heard about panic and stomach issues. I heard that panic causes tightening/contracting of muscles which can lead to intestinal issues -- like diverticulitis.

Just a thought, and hope you are feeling better.
