For anyone who hasn't heard, Uncommon Knowledge have set up a YouTube channel; two, actually. I can't post the links, but search for users "uncommonknowledgeuk" or "hypnosisdownloads."

As of this posting, there are only three videos:
- The snake phobia cure
- Snake phobia 3-month followup
- Mark Tyrrell: "What is hypnosis?"

If anyone needs more tv in their life then this place will provide.

Besides it has a documentary on hypnosis you might be interested in.

Is this an actuall working handshake interrupt? cos it looks a bit fumbled?
And also could he have really hypnotised the girl just by clicking his fingers?

Yes and yes.

If you look at what is asked of Kristan there is nothing that requires him to be hypnotised. He might be but the hypnosis is just for effect.

However the induction on the girl does result in hypnosis. There is more to it than clicking the fingers. Not a lot but there is more to it. Look again and describe exactly what he does.

Yes. You were missing everything before the click of the fingers.

Five points to get compliance, get her used to following instructions, get her to take a deep breath ready for disorientation as the command 'sleep' is thrown in. The only thing that is of little relevance is the click -although of course that helps get the eyes shut and is good for those watching.

Oh and one other thing you missed - probably more important than the rest. She has just seen a high profile celebrity get zapped - her expectation is therefore high.

Hi, Ant, I'm curious about your opinion re: something in that last Derren vid (and just for the record, I can't stand Derren) - anyone's opinion, actually. :) That jabbering Derren was doing at the end about the audience forgetting everything they'd just seen in the show? How valid/possible is that? I certainly can't see it working on the entire audience; but even if it worked on some, how long would it last (would they start remembering the next day)? Would being in a large group like that feed expectancy (peer pressure/going along with the crowd)?

Kind of rude, IMO. He just took their money and left them with no memory of what they spent it on? How are they supposed to recommend his show to others if they can't remember it? (rhetorical questions) :P

If hypnotised then it is perfectly possible and valid to insist on full or partial amnesia.

I suspect though that he and his accomplice collared particular people after the show and did some work with them on either forgetting the show or forgetting something else, like their number or a name and then filming their reaction to forgetting that number or name and cut it in.

It is a magic show not a hypnosis show.

Of course. I knew that. Heck, I've experienced that, when there was no suggestion for amnesia.

True, true. I could see that happening. I don't trust anything Derren does, and his attitude/personality annoys me. So a bait-and-switch like that is certainly possible.

So in regards to my original question, can I read this as you agreeing it's unlikely he could have done what he told the audience he'd done?
