I would say that weight loss is more complex than simply going on a diet and exercising. I am not overweight myself, but I have struggled with other addictive behaviour and from listening to other people with this issue it sounds like it could be similar for some people.

I think it's reasonable to come onto a forum and ask for advice from people who have been through a similar experience and might have found strategies or insight which might help. I think it's a shame that some people have wasted their time by replying with negativity and nothing of value.

For me, my emotions are a part of the issue and very challenging to understand and manage. Writing on a safe, supportive forum has been invaluable to me in receiving advice and support - and as an outlet for these negative emotions. I also find it hard to connect with people face-to-face and struggle with anxiety. As a short - term fix, my addictions served me very well and helped me to feel liberated. However, longer term, they caused me great harm and actually worsened the issues that they seemed to (temporarily) fix.

My advice would be to write on here, for yourself, as much as seeking advice. You can see the small steps that you are trying to make and start to be honest with yourself about how you are feeling and not avoid those feelings. It might help you to get used to putting these into words and then sharing some of these feelings and thoughts with others.

Another thing might be to find a hobby that you are passionate about. Having a skill can help to boost your confidence and help you find like-minded people with a shared interest who you might find are easier to socialise with.

What is complex is understanding the motivation to diet and exercise.

That is not negative. That is not useless advice. It is reality.

Diet and exercise are the only path to weight loss. That is reality.

The question of motivation is complex. The question of behaviors required to lose weight are not.
