taking suggestions literaly

Postby alangalaxy » Wed Apr 25, 2012 1:16 pm

Couple weeks ago i saw a young lady suffering extreme nerves during driving exams.
She had failed twice because of nerves.
Among other things such as some future pacing about the exam i said and
you can take couple relaxing deep breaths etc.
Well the lady passed her test but told me she was breathing like a weird stalker
in her test....although she was quite relaxed !
Reminds me of one several years ago when i mentioned to someone
you will have lots if energy.
She was up till four in the morning cleaning the house.
Husband not too happy .
So seems the sub conscious really does take things literally.
Beware ?

All this means is that you're a very effective hypnotist. Congratulations! Many people would love to be getting the results that you do :)

I agree with Luke - well done! Obviously the way you deliver your patter must be very effective! :)

It does remind us of the adage, "Always contextualize your suggestions."

But I'm not sure how loose these contextualizations can be and still have the desired effect. Is "You will have lots of energy when you need it" too vague?

I rather prefer, "When you need to finish a task, your body will provide all the energy you need," because the test for invoking the suggestion is clearer.

The one I especially liked was a direct suggestion for alertness when driving, which has helped me for about six months now.
