Young person being Bullied

Postby aromagirl » Thu Sep 14, 2017 4:40 pm

Hi I'm a practicing CBT therapist and have years experience of working with young people but I'm at a loss. I have tried everything with one of my clients who is being verbally bullied at school resulting in panic attacks (she is 13). We have discussed the usual advice for dealing with bullying ie ignore etc; psychoeducation, creative activities to help build her confidence, relaxation, challenging thoughts, breathing, relaxation etc etc, but she ihas admitted that she doesn't put any of this into practice. She now tells me she is being referred to CAMHS as well as GP etc as her anxiety is getting worse???. Any suggestions? Is there something else I could try? Much appreciated

When someone is bullied: does not feel safe

Telling to breath deep: may have a positive influence but does not change the negative fantasies

One has to report the problem to the police: it is the police who makes you feel safe: and overcome the negative fantasies and overcome the psychological dominance thay has been Caused

Have you explored why she "doesn't put any of this into practice"?

Jesus Christ you people...she needs to learn how to fight and then smack the shyte out of whoever is tormenting her. Nothing else works, I know from experience. Kids minds don't work like adults, so all this psychobabble nonsense is doing her no favors. I know as a therapist you cannot tell her this, but your living a delusion if you think you can reason with teenaged bullies. But hey, you're still getting paid either way right? It's not complicated; mouths stop running when they fill up with blood and broken teeth.
