Hey Andrew,
This will be hard. It will be painful, and there's no getting around that. I'm 34 days clean, and like you, was a 20 year daily driver. I was a grower in California, and that made access to the very best buds a given. The last 10 years, it was non stop, every day, all day.
People like us who have abused for decades will have a much harder time than the 20 something kid who hasnt been abusing quite as long. We don't have the resilience of someone younger, and we have a lot more time behind the pipe. This is a huge factor in how your recovery will go. As I said , it will be brutal and there's no sense in lying to ourselves.
I started this journey in solidarity with my younger sister who started at 15 years old. It was a family tradition in our has, and I remember dad rolling joints as far back as...well as far back as my memory goes, so our whole lives. My sister used to play with the
"beans" (seeds) and they all thought that was hilarious. She is now 37 years old, a beautiful girl, but living with her 63 year old lifelong stoner father. She lasted 2 weeks before she informed me that she could not longer continue because "it's just too hard and I have so many bad memories..." I was heartbroken, but what can you say?
We all have our own sh**, as life is prone to crushing people under it's enormous weight. But facing it head on without being stoned all the time allows us to experience the rare moments of joy and happiness, and feel them for real. For me, it's my children, who are 5 and 2 years old. I want to remember this time, and not just through pictures and stories. I want to be present.
Whatever your motivation is, know that if nothing else, it's a gift your giving yourself. Weed didn't destroy my life, it just kept me far away from achieving my potential and made my memories of the past hazy dreams that seem to belong to someone else completely.
Make the decision today. Have faith in yourself and the possibility of a better life. We know what the alternative is and it's just the same old same old. It never changes and never will. There is inspiration and support right here, literally at your finger tips (or thumbs, if your one if those heathens, lol). You can do this.
Good luck!
