Professionals PLS Help-The Big Five (OCEAN) Personality Test

Postby thatjonas » Fri Mar 05, 2021 4:47 am

Hello, my name is Jonas, and I need expert opinion on the "Big Five (OCEAN) Personality Test"

What are your thoughts on the personality test? (Are they accurate? Do they work? Etc etc...)

and

What are your thoughts on personality tests in general? We have had many different personality tests come around, such as the Myers Briggs personality test, and I am curious if you believe these are actually representative of the person taking the test. Can someone actually answer the test honestly, or do you believe that people manipulate the tests in such a way that conforms to their own self identity?

In general, I think they are fairly worthless.

But I guess it depends on how the test results will be used. And this is probably my biggest issue...not necessarily with the test itself, but with how people try to apply the results.

Are you a psychologist? Have you taken this personality test before ? If so what did you get and was it accurate?

Yes. I'm an educational psychologist...not a clinical psychologist.

No personality test is "accurate". The idea that a personality test can be accurate is part of the problem. I have not taken OCEAN, because I see no value for me personally.

Note, I'm not saying personality tests have zero value. I'm only suggesting, as stated in my initial response, that what matters most is how the results of the test are used.

What do you think? How do you think the results of OCEAN should be used?
