Eye Contact, Focus on the iris or pupil?

Postby Advans » Mon Jan 01, 2018 5:24 pm

Hey all,

When it comes to making eye contact, should you focus on the person's iris? Or focus on the pupil? I'm surprised at how much trouble I am having finding an answer for this. I feel like it's a legitimate question. Any input is very much appreciated. Thanks!

You focus on what they are saying, you focus on the facial cues, the body language. The iris vs pupil will simply distract where your focus should be. No one cares, they can’t tell, and if you are concentrating on eye contact instead of concentrating on what they are saying, your body language will come across as odd.

Oh my goodness don’t focus that hard on any part of anyone’s face unless you want them to feel uncomfortable lol...

But it is a legitimate question though :) for a long time I always felt weird because I’d be talking to someone and asking myself which eyeball I should focus on?

I agree with Richard 100%. Unless you're doing a "V" impersonation by saying, "Remember, remember, the fifth of November," I think a casual observance is enough. Listening is the key.
