Story time book for children (4-8 years old)

Hi uncommon people!
Just taken on a new part time job working with 4-8 year olds in a group situation and running a complimentary group with their parents and parents of other children in the school. It is a new government initative. !!!!! ONEST.

Its a great opportunity and experience for me. Part of the two hour group-time with the children will feature puppet work with LARGE puppets (I have a Dragon as the main character that is 5 feet long) The dragon, or other puppet of a jester, will feature as a story teller who asks questions about various teaching tales. It will probably get confused, as I will, and hopefully the children will put us both back on an appropriate track and explain the tale to us. This is a short part of the group, but offers I think a very useful and powerful possibilities.

So why all this information. Well I'm looking for suggestions of useful teaching tales or books like The Selfish Giant to start building into the group.

Any suggestions would be appreciated

Have a look at http://www.nelig.com/resources/bookschildren.htm which lists hundreds of books according to an emotional theme. The site promotes emotional literacy in schools and has lots of interesting stuff on it.

I also recommend Arthur Rowshan's "Telling Tales". He is a hypnotherapist and NLP practitioner as well as story teller and the book is full of very helpful information about working with children in this way.
