Hi Antigreen
Thats the sort of question that people could write a book about!!
However.....someone has looked at this ....a guy callled Stephen Bidoulf in 'Raising Boys.' it is a good read.
There are many cases where a boy has a Father living at home and yet that parent does not play an active part in their upbringing, so as the child grows up it is important that the child has other males to spend time with that are good role models.
SB says that a boy mostly needs their Mother till around 7, learning about caring interaction, then the Father/Uncles/Friends of the family play a greater role in his upbringing.
Lots of people growing up in single parent families turn out to be very well adjusted adults, and that can be put down to many different reasons, but having someone or who is loving attentive and supportive must be a stabilising factor, and it doesn't have to be the parent.
