7 months sober and brain fog

Postby Acliff21 » Thu Nov 12, 2020 3:18 pm

How’s it going? I’ve been sober for a little over 7 months now. Definitely feeling better since day 1, but it seems like the brain fog is the one thing that is still the major thing that’s bothering me. The brain fog/head pressure is nonstop all day with the pressure mostly coming around the temple areas. It just brings fatigue and my memory is just crappy. Was just wondering if anyone is this far along from there recovery and still deal with brain fog or if anyone went this long and had it go away. Wish all ya guys luck with ya recovery. Thank ya

I’m just over 8 months and feel similar. sh** memory. Occasional brain fog or just generally feeling “not right” almost like I’m coming down from being high. It’s such an uncomfy feeling but seems to be very s l o w l y getting better. You’re not alone, friend.

Oh, I occasionally still wake up feeling SUPER anxious for absolutely no reason too. So annoying.

I hear ya. It’s super frustrating. Most days I’m confident with time I will get better, but I get my days where I feel like I’m going be the exemption and be like this forever. That’s mainly my anxiety and low self confidence. Just got to stay patient and try to stay positive. Congrats on 8 months tho, that’s excellent!

Im also at 7 months. I have constant brain fog for the most part. My short term memory and processing speed are still quite shitty though they have improved. Overall i do fear of the permanent damage I might have caused, but I'm hoping for the best.

2.9 years clean. No brain fog ever. I suffered with it for the best part of a year with it continuing intermittently for the next year after that - but only intermittently - not constantly and of a lower intesity. Brain fog is never permanent when it's caused by PAWs.

Hey tokes,

Glad to hear that. I'm at 5 months and just had a serious accident at work because of these very issues. I quit for almost 8 months last year, then got right back to multiple daily smoking.

Stopped for good on 7/7/20...it just seems to be worse than before. I smoked constantly for 20 plus years, maybe there's perm damage.

Either way... a warning to all....no power tools or heavy/dangerous machinery the first year at least. I came very close to some tragic consequences. What's f***ed is that when I was high every day, I never had one issue or felt fear or danger at all. My brain and motor skills must've been acclimated to thc all the time.

Most days I feel dumb af and completely unable to remember anything

Brain fog WILL lift. It is not permanent. I smoked for 8 years everyday without a break and mine has gone now. All the other skills such as quick reaction times, coordination, concerntration, multi tasking, finishing things properly and efficiently I've had to configure as those functions were used to working on THC. But those are basically back to normal levels too now. Everyone has the "I think I've done permanent damage" thought process but you haven't. Sure you might be a bit slower and bit more out of touch then friends or work colleagues but they didn't smoke marijuana for 20 years. I'm 2.9 years in and im still feeling new clicks and adjustments that are improving my mental capabilities to how they were before. So just keep going..everyday is a step towards returning to normality so don't pick up the habit again!

Hey man, I’m at 9 1/2 months now n still feeling like crap. The past couple days I’ve been feeling defeated and completely depressed. Signed in today and looked back at my old posts and saw this comment and just want to say that I appreciate it. To feel like crap for almost 10 months has just grinded me down, but I needed to read something like this to kind of give me some hope and to not give up. Just thought I’d comment n say thank you and I appreciate it so much.

Acliff, how are you feeling now? I am at 5 months and have terrible brain fog and dizziness/unsteadiness. Everyday. Feeling defeated, also, like you said. Are you doing any better now?

Hey everyone...I'm approaching one year on July 7th. I've felt some minor improvement over the last few months, but it's still slow

I think accepting the fact that there will be times when it feels like nothing is happening is very important. Also, even as things get better, accepting that it is likely going to be much slower than we thought. We're all different, But i think realizing we are people used to instant change (getting high), where our moods, pain levels, insomnia, frustration, external difficulties can all be erased with weed (or wax, oil, whatever your thing), is key.

I think because I had used this drug almost daily since 18 years old, I never really developed a sense of the mental effort and emotional exhaustion that being a human in this world entails. I would say that not very many people actually do.

Most people start drinking in high school and usually (not always) do drugs as well. Now we have social media and gaming and online addiction to contend with. Reality can be a rough road to ride, and I still ask myself daily, why am I even trying to do this sober? I mean I've got nothing, no alcohol, no drugs...not even Rx pills.

Long story short, it's going to be hard and stay hard for quite a bit longer than you can imagine.

Lifting weights, biking, reading, sex...that's really all I got now. But the fact that I can and do these things, that's something to be grateful for. And I'm actually working towards a purpose now in life, not just checking out because I'm uncomfortable.

Good luck everyone and share you're journey
