It's been an eventful summer for me. I stopped substitute teaching in May so I could get summer work helping the elderly. I spent about 6 weeks helping an elderly man. After 6 weeks I realized I was overwhelmed by his condition. Muscular Dystrohpy is really hard to help with solo. He needs a team of helpers not just one guy. I left that job and picked up a janitor job. That is going well. I am in teacher training so I'm studying about 10 hours a week for that. That will ramp up to 40 hours a week in the Fall. I really love "What color is your parachute?" by Richard Bolles. The flower graphic in the book reminds me to remind myself of my favorite skills/ topics to work with. He reminds me to look for pleasure at work because if there is zero pleasure, I should leave. Being a janitor is not glamorous. Still I like helping the community and now I know how much janitors do to make sure office buildings are clean. Has anyone read "What Color Is Your Parachute?" It's a ground breaking book in the occupational therapy field.
