I'd like to hear a little about your experience using UncommonForum. Sometimes we find it's a little slow and I'd like to know if that's the case for everyone. We moved the forum not so long ago as it had outgrown its previous server, but it's looking like the growth of the community is putting strain on the new server too.

So let me know what you think...

It's taking forever to do everything!!! Is it likely to improve any time soon? It seems particularly slow tonight... it's a good job I've got the Brit Awards to watch whilst I'm waiting for my little green bar to fill up! Some nights I give up and switch off - I hate it when that happens because I do love it here!

These are exactly the sort of reports I'm looking for Joobles, so we can make a decision about whether to upgrade the server again. Thank you.

Posting is slow, although maybe it's because I'm in the US? Also, why can't I fill in a signature? I looked over the FAQ and didn't see a reason. Thanks

I'm finding it very slow - annoying when I am using supposedly superfast broadband!

jillg - we have a block on signatures until you have made 30 posts and been a member of the forum for 7 days. This is to deter people joining purely for promotional purposes. Thanks for the heads up on the FAQ - we'll update that.

There seems to be no pattern, sometimes fast but other times it can take forever. I was never sure if that was my system? Maybe just when there are lots of people on here?

The technical low down on this is that it's an effect of using a virtual server - in other words, sharing a server with other sites. We're looking into moving to a dedicated server now which should fix that problem (we hope!)

I have found the forum very slow as well. I am releived to find out that it is not just a problem with my computer. It can take up to 60seconds just to change pages and it is very annoying.

I sometimes use the Firefox browser instead of Microsoft Windows Internet Explorer browser when I come across a problem with webpages loading. I tried it with this forum and it definitely makes the forum work faster. Firefox is quite easy to install or your computer and you can use it and Windows IE as well (you can have an IE window open at the same time as a Firefox browser) so it does not mean that you have to change over completely to Firefox.

I hope this helps.

Thanks Windyday - this is in line with our experiences. OK folks, we'll go ahead and get ourselves a faster server and hopefully that will make your experience at UncommonForum a speedy and seamless one. Watch this space for reports.

I too often find it very slow although it does vary, but is much slower than many other sites I use.

Folks,

Yes, agree about the slowness and variation.

Roger,

Sounds like you are on the right track with a new server. It will be much appreciated. :)

Alex.

Happily, Matt our new tech is an expert server-wrassler so hopefully it will go without a glitch.

OMG, can't believe how slow it is tonight!!! I am losing the will to live! I'm really glad to hear about the new server on the horizon - when's it likely to happen? Soon I hope? :D
