All of this makes no sense

Postby jamesbond » Fri Oct 25, 2013 9:50 am

Hi Guys.

I have a problem.

I am a successful 31 year old male. I have a good well paid job. I am healthy. I have a pretty and smart girlfriend. I have a bunch of friends that I can trust.

Looks like that since I do not have things to worry about recently there is a thing that started to bug me pretty bad couple of months ago.

All the time I feel that I do not fit in this world. Is it just me that understands that all things around us is just our perception? Is it just me to notice that we do not know anything about the world and that we do not know if it makes sense to ask this question in the first place? What is the world? What does it mean to ask questions? Why do I see what I see? I keep on dwelling on these questions for a while now and they really bug me. I feel like I am going mad. I am afraid I am going to turn into a nut-case.

I feel like I am a part of a computer game. Eat, sleep, work, love, socialise, enjoy the day, … on and on and on. I find it difficult to make sense of anything recently. I just play the game day by day and pretend everything is ok hoping I will find some answers or solutions before I go nuts.

I hope in those 6 billion people on the planet there is a group of us similar ones. I do not know what would I do with that group but at least I would not feel lonely or that I am going mad.

Hello? Are you there?

Thats because life is boring it becomes predictable. You sound like you have played it safe, it sounds like you just went along and got a job and got into relationships because thats what society wanted you to do.

its because there are no objective values only subjective ones. if you are like me and can't think of a set of values to fight for then the all game of life doesn't become interesting.

I thought things through right to end and the question what is there that you want out of life. and imo there is nothing to get attached to, there is nothing to be gained. everything is fleeting. its like when you play chess and we know that white is going to win in 20 moves at that point the game because not enjoyable, its time to start a new game only you can't. you must play this one out to the end.

it is imo that we have been tricked by government, rich men to live a certain way. take my job for example all I do is push paper around, I have X number of books that I must adhere to, but all of them are open to interpretation and in the end it doesn't matter because it leaves my desk and goes on site it changes anyway.

the only quesiton is should I committ suicide or not.....well? whats it going to be go back on the hamster wheel or play the game out, and in 20 moves you lost anyway.

Hi

The point of life is to experience happiness. When we ask ourselves the question "What can I do right now to keep me happy?" we know instantly without thought what to do. When we follow this intuition, we walk the path of consistent happiness, spontaneity and excitement can only exist when we are flexible with our plans, joy comes from engaging ourselves in small acts of human kindness. A smile, a hug, a helping hand, a compliment, a word of encouragement, a gift.

Allowing happiness to flow more freely is aided by letting go of negative thought patterns that get in the way of happiness. Letting go of thought patterns to do with fear, anger, jealousy, blame, guilt, tension, sorrow, resentment, irritation, annoyance. Letting these go is as straight forward as choosing our next thought.

We can look in a mirror and say affirmations and this has a massive effect on our experience of the world. We can say

"I am willing to change, I am willing to allow happiness to flow more easily in my life, I deserve happiness just because I exist, I am capable, I am powerful, I am strong, I am gentle, I am loving, I am kind, I love myself and I love my life"

What does it mean to ask questions?

Yes, there are similar people asking the same questions. Look into epistemology. A 4-quadrant matrix asks two questions;

(1) To what extent does truth exist? (Ontology)

(2) To what extent can we know the truth? (Epistemology)

These two questions form a large variety of mental models from which to view the world, from chaos theory to a realist. I think if you start looking into all the research out there you will find some pretty interesting stuff that helps answer your questions and hopefully bring some sense of the world to you.

You can keep thinking about it for the rest of your life and still will not find the answer.
Go to Africa, South America or Middle East and see how hard and sad life over there can be...
You have every reason to be happy and enjoy life.

When you feel it's all boring, you should travel, start learning new things, new language, playing piano, dancing tango... change something.... so that your life will have some new sparks... it's the same with the relationship. You should refresh it with new experiences, new things all the time, start doing something you have not been doing before.... otherwise it will become just a habit and you both will not enjoy it as much as you did in the beginning... when you were so much in love with each other (first 1-2 years of the relationship).

You have a freedom, it's all up to you. Your life will be as you make it. This is what you should realize and change your attitude. Every day is an opportunity.

You can't live your life twice. That's why you should live the best life that you can.
So that, when you will be close to death, you will say: I did my best, enjoyed every minute of it and would love to live my life again! It was all worth it!

Jamesbond, even if people who think outside the box are a small percentage, they still add up to good many worldwide. And it is this small minority that instigates all new developments for good or ill. Most of the rest take little thought for their own beleifs, assumptions, or ethics- they just go along with whatever they beleive to be the view of the majority.

If you want to change society's attitude to something, you have only to persuade individuals that everybody else already has the attitude that you desire.

Awareness is uncomfortable- that's why soporific drugs are so popular, and mass entertainments that resemble soporific drugs. No one ever said that awareness and insight was easy and comfortable- nor will your developing awareness make you popular.

However, the extreme loneliness that can result from thinking outside the mainstream can certainly be mitigated by linking up with others like yourself. I mean people who think as deeply as yourself-they don;t have to entirely agree with you. And nowadays you have the ability- as you're doing now- to link up with people all over the world, through the internet.

You will encounter many idiots and narrow minded fanatics outside the mainstream, just as you would within it. But now and then you will meet people to whom you can relate.
