Fear of sleeping and OCD like behavior.

Postby HavenofStars » Sun Dec 18, 2016 2:20 am

Hi. I am 11, and I have had a fear of sleep. I have a window next to my bed and the house if old, so I'm terrified that someone is watching me or something. I have to sleep with a nightlight and say a ritual every night or else I won't feel safe, and even then, I rest uneasily. I'm scared to to into my room and sleep, but my parents get angry at me when I try to not sleep in there so I can rest, then they send me back. I jump at the smallest sound and I also recently had a case of sleep paralysis (I think is is, at least). I woke up, and for a few seconds, I couldn't move. I slowly started to move my arm, but I moved very slowly, as I couldn't move any faster. I opened my eyes, and I saw flashes of terrifying images, and when I closed them, I saw skulls, as if I bad been viewing an x-ray. Again, not sure if it was sleep paralysis or a dream, or even something else. I couldn't really tell. I had just woken up from a lucid nightmare, so I thought I was awake. Now, after months of this ritualistic behavior, I get angry at small things, such as imperfections in clothes. I haven't a single clue what to do or what is wrong with me. I appreciate all of your help. Thank you.

Hi,

I think it's great you write your post here.
Welcome and I hope you will get some help or advice.

It's very terrible to read that your parents are not giving you the understanding and safety you need.
If you feel totally safe, you will sleep very well. Did you ever told your parents about your anxiety? Should they understand it?

Is there a reason you have no curtain over your window?

Can you please say something more about your ritual you are saying every evening?
Is it sort of a prayer? To who or what are you speaking?

Skulls have something to do with death. And fear.
Are there any objects in your room or in the house that could be dealing with it?
Maybe paintings? Or icons, statues?

Are you playing games which could give you the anxiety? Or do you watch certain movies? Any horror?

Please feel free to share what you need to share here if it may help you.

I was much the same as a child. Have you talked to your parents about it? Maybe you could benefit from seeing a counselor.
