Can't workout anymore

Postby dirtySanchez » Tue Sep 03, 2019 3:59 pm

I am at 21 months now.

Can't tell if this problem is PAWS or weed related - I just want to know if anyone expired something similar maybe..

I used to work-out a lot in the past. Really. My workout sessions were 1-2 hours long and really intense. This was happening 1 year before quitting and lasted a little more than 1 year into the quit. Last 7 months I wasn't really paying too much attention to it. Here and there only.

Around few weeks ago I decided to start again. During the exercise everything is fine. But after (even if I had a mild exercise (workout + walking uphill or just workout) at 50% intensity ) I finish - in the time range of 30mins or more I get a really heavy head, fuzzy thoughts, confusion, no mental energy, weakness, tunnel vision, not being able to think, anxiety,.. and it lasts for two days straight.

In those days I can't function. I am really like a zombie.

I tried to drink more water, cutting off caffeine completely and my diet is pretty good.

Anyone have any ideas?

I read something about f vasovagal response but how can this occur now?

Couple of things, some symptoms pop up later instead of all symptoms popping up together.

Secondly, weren't you taking niacinamide and feeling a lot better?

I am still taking niacinamide and overall I am feeling a lot better.

Regarding my problem with exercise, niacinamide doesn't seem to help. Also, this "mood" which I get after exercise is not directly PAWS - maybe is somehow related to it.

Yeah, completely fine. Even between the workout, I am fine (without any effects). It's only after the workout that I get the symptoms described above, which is really weird since I never experienced this till now (being at 21months)

Sounds like exercise induced anxiety, which some people around here have reported in the past. May be some last lingering bit of PAWS that should go away eventually

I am not a doctor nor a specialist but what i have noticed since i have similar problem somehow.
I used to run full marathon and i did 3 in 1 year.
And as you know to prepare for a marathon you have to put your body on a lot of stress for 2h to 3h workout multiple time a week and since I i used to smoke a lot, i think that i didn't allowed my body to recover properly. Because of smoking we were numbing the pain and creating a feeling of wellbeing mimicking the state of recovery, and i kept pushing and pushing. My first panic attack was during london marathon and all the problem started from there.
What i am trying to tell is that your body was drained from all the strong and long workout that you used to do while not knowing because we were numb.
And now when you push in intensity your body memory just remember that feeling and start to produce cortisol and fight or flight response is triggered and you have all this nasty effects.
I think we have to give it more time to reset everything and just do some very light exercise.
We have to respect our body and give it sometime to heal because we didn't respected it for very long time.
And good to hear that you are feeling better overall.
Keep the fight bro.

How long have you been in PAWS now? I have similar if I have anything that's overstimulating esp things that make me nervous. Sometimes sleeping does it, I wake up from a nap and I feel like I'm high for a while with the weird feeling I get and then it goes away. Hope it resolves soon for you anyway, maybe try not to think about it too much and it will pass.

I started to work out a lot (cardio) when I was smoking a lot; 2-4 hrs 3-4 times a week. I felt really tired but good overall.

Since quitting, I noticed one big thing: My body doesn't repair itself. Ill be sore as hell 3 days later, even if I ate a lot. I also felt SO exhausted; there were times I couldnt even keep my eyes open because my body was shutting down.

6 months into PAWS, I finally dont feel that way anymore. My muscles feel sore as I would expect, but it goes away after a day if I eat. I am not nearly as tired as I used to get a few months ago. It feels way more "normal".

To me it seems like you stress your body out a LOT more when working out with PAWS. And your muscles just dont recover like they should.

I think it's us being more sensitive rather than our body not healing. We just feel the pain and fatigue alot more now.

Sleep is essential for recovery. PAWS can really mess with sleep architecture for a very long time.

@biohack @ash
thats my thinking too. Lots of functions that happen when we sleep are disrupted during PAWS: Muscles healing after workout, libido, and brain fatigue...Its hard to tell if these are all caused directly by PAWS, or indirectly by lack of good sleep.

I worked out 2 hrs cardio 3 days ago; Im sore today; but was fine yesterday. Nothing really adds up; but I now recognize this sort of soreness as a PAWS symptom and not just a result of working out. The first few months of PAWS I was this sore all the time.

I know I just posted about working out and feeling better but that has totally changed, PAWS sucks and I just dont feel right. Working out definitely helps me feel "better" but it interferes with my sleep causing a delay in feeling sore. I dont feel sore the day after working out more like two or three days later. Our brains really are struggling to repair themselves. I really wish I can work out and get in better shape, I have just been gaining weight and its making me struggle with my body image. Eating less causes me to have insane cravings and eating to feel satiated is making me fat.

Hang in there guys, we have each other for support.

@JimBob, I definitely recall a few months ago that I would start to be sore 2 days after working out too.
Now my sore fingers/toes have returned, thats completely unrelated to working out. And Im sleeping pretty poorly...

Hope you all are doing better.

Hey Sparkle, I also have chronically sore fingers and toes, and can't recall anyone else with this problem. It's not tied to working out, and it's not joint related as far as I can tell, it's muscular. Bending my thumbs in certain directions brings a lot of pain that used to not be a factor before. I've had other chronically stiff muscle groups as well but none as stubborn as my digits. I've been able to resolve hip and shoulder pain back to normal with lots of soft tissue work and stretching, no luck with my fingers and toes though. I know it's PAWS related as I never had this issue before, and it varies in severity along with my other symptoms (like jaw muscle soreness).

leavepawsbehind, it is certainly PAWS related. I had it every day for the first 3-4 months BOTH times Ive gone through PAWWS; then it went away for a while and now its back again at 6.5months.
