Problems with "changing gears"

Postby bleachednote » Fri Jul 18, 2014 12:33 am

I seem to have issues with switching between different tasks. This is comprehensive and consecutive, by which I mean the incidents are not isolated but continuous. The issue is not in fact my focus or lack thereof but it is that of finding it extremely difficult to start another task.

To provide an example: I might come home after work and make note of all the important tasks that I need to complete. These could be anything from financial documents/forms to making plans for vacation (if it interferes with my free time then I consider it "work"). After doing so, I will procrastinate by engaging in a hobby and then find that the rest of my day has been wasted.

The times I do manage to start my tasks, I get such an intense sense of concentration that even I am amazed at myself. Perhaps the problem with starting my tasks is being uncertain of how to start them or there are too many to manage all at once?

we rate something as too much important: we pay extreme attention, and even when we are done with that, we are not exactly done with that, so we cannot switch to another task because our mind is still busy with the one before...

It depends on how bad our attention is still with the one before...

Washing our hands and face, sometimes could be a good idea to snap the brain out of that obsessive thinking...

the idea is to do something that gets our attention really bad, so we surrender to what we are obsessing with... so from that point you are free to start another task....

We also have to learn when to surrender, We dont have to think too much about the job, because we already are spending there lots of hours...

Sometimes it isn't really a problem and the real issue is just the habit, so why don't you just jump straight into the next task next time you find yourself procrastinating?
