Video Games during Session

Postby ced316 » Fri Mar 08, 2019 6:26 am

I'm currently finishing up my program (MFT) and doing face to face hours at a highschool. One of the students I'm seeing is having a hard time opening up, but really responds when he talks about videogames.

I also play video games.

So I asked my supervisor if I could bring my Nintendo Switch to play with him at the end of a session. She liked the idea, saying it shows my dedication and how well I know my people, however, wanted to know the therapeutic purpose of it. I know gaming with him will build his trust / rapport but also is there any way to state that it can help his depression?

It will strengthen the connection between you two, and remind him of his competence. That's gotta be good!
