Eckhart Tolle's "The Power of Now" I have found to be the most useful book so far, I am applying it more and more often and finding staying in the here and now easier daily.

hope this is helpful, I am mindful that the context of his writings are not for everybody.

I agree with wispers- Eckhart Tolle's work on the Power of Now- is terific with some great exercises. my only reservation is his sometimes negative attitude to our internal "chatter"
Balance this with E & J Hart - "Ask and it is Given"
http://www.freemeditations.com - is a great place to start

Hi Leia,

I just saw your post. There is a guided relaxation/meditation site that I use to help stay present during the day. It is at http://www.trueabudance.org/relaxation.htm

I hope it helps.

I like Echart's book too. However, audio CD is pretty lame.

A very simple to read and useful book is "The Present" by Spencer Johnson. Its my recommendation for you.

My recommendation is to try John Selby's 7 Masters meditation. You can get the book or visit this brief explanation of what it is...John Selby 7 Masters Meditation

the other types of meditation you can try are:

a)Power of NOW meditation
b) Unconditional Love meditation

another very good book by Eckhart Tolle is "A New Earth" but like any of his books read it little by little and try not to rush to the next page, the power of now i have been reading on and off for years but it is intense whereas a new earth is easier to get started with.

Also Radical Acceptance by Tara Brach.

The Power of Now has been suggested but can vouch for the fact that its a powerful book

Here'#s a poem I love about living in the moment ... written by an 85 year old

PICKING DAISIES
If I had my life to live over,
I would dare to make more mistakes next time.
I would relax, limber up.
I would be sillier than I have been this trip.
I would take fewer things seriously and take more chances.
I would climb more mountains, swim more rivers, and watch more sunsets.
I would, perhaps, have more actual troubles but I would have fewer imaginary ones.

You see, I am one of those people who live sanely, sensibly, prudently; hour after hour, day after day.
Oh, I have had my moments!
And if I had to do it over again, I would have more of them
Maybe I would have nothing else?
Just moments, one after another, instead of living so many years ahead of each day.
I have been one of those people who never goes anywhere without a thermometer, a hot water bottle, a raincoat, and a parachute.

If I had it to do it over, I would travel lighter on the next trip.
I would start going barefoot earlier in the spring and stay that way later in the fall.
I wouldn't make such good grades, except by accident.
I would have more sweethearts.
I would go to more dances.
I would sing more songs and play more games.
I would ride more merry-go-rounds.

I'd pick more daisies.

If I had my life to live over.

Read the article What is Enlightenmentwhich is all about that. It tells why being in the present is important with info from top psychologists, medicine and cosmology (astronomy and physics).
