Did this just die a death then? I was hoping ulv would at least come back and justify his/her views.

I wonder if anybody else has seen this. I was particularly interested by the use of NLP and rapport building (in terms of mirroring pointing) and Derren stepping to one side to see if the other person would follow. I was also intrigued by the apparent use of a water bottle as an anchor to put the chap back into a trance later on.

That trix looks so cool, I want to try it out but don't have the guts, but after a few drinks I can do almost anything, really sad way to boost your confidence, but it helps

Say you try an instant handshake induction on someone you've never met, without any pre-talk. When you suggest to them SLEEP, what are the chances of them colapsing, I've seen some do this, but some stay standing but colapse from the wasit up.

Wouldn't it be dangerous to try this in the street unless theres a way to have them stand? How would you avoid them falling or is it just a hit or miss thing?

Kev wouldn't that reduce the power of the Sleep command? Have you done it before like that? Or were you just joking?

What about instant inductions on people that your close to, does it make any difference? For example what are the chances of a handshake induction working on someone you see everyday and never shake thair hand?

Sleep and stand works just fine.

Not only are you teling them to sleep but you immediately pace what is normal - to remain standing. Rarely does somene collapse if you hypnotise them with a rapid induction standing up.

I normally follow 'sleep and stand' with 'your legs will support you' as I start rocking them back and forth.

Do you even have to suggest they "SLEEP!". When Derren Brown does it (I think I'm becoming slightly obsessed with him now) Anyway, when he does it he says "Look at your hand as your eyes close". Will this send them into an altered state. Or is that merely because of expectation, etc.

I suppose "Look at your hand as you slowly relax and drift deeper and deeper, etc" would be better.

No. It is because 'look at your hand and your eyes will close' or 'sinking and drifting' or 'not really hypnotising you' will do just as well as 'sleep'. It is just a matter of presentation.

Try it and see.

I honestly don't know why I haven't tried it yet. I really want to, but I'm afraid it wont' work. You need confidence to do it right, and to do it right, you need confidence. But to get that confidence you need to first do it right.

Alright, I'm trying it this week. Not trying. I'm doing it this week. I'm going to do it on my friend, so I can't just shake his hand it will look weird. I'll make a bet with him about something and we'll "shake on it".

Quick questions then - Bringing him back. I'm just gonna count him back "I'm going to count down from 3 and when I reach zero you will find yourself awakening feeling refreshed and fully alert" Yeah?

And also, will he be "deep enough" for me to plant a PHS?

There's a number of topics on your post.

About the confidence / experience catch-22: if you practice the words and actions in the mirror and with friends then that'll give you the confidence to be able to deliver the suggestions competently so you can concentrate on observation, feedback and maintaining the trance.

I use Derren Brown's brief patter to get into a handshake - regardless of what's happened already, whether you know them well or not, simply ask if they're ready to see something, pause, and then say "Hello, my name's <your>" as you bring your hand up for the handshake. For the same reasons that the handshake induction works (automatic action, learned behaviour, etc) they will automatically bring their hand up to shake yours without realising what they're doing.

Bringing them back: counting is good - just think of the wake-up as suggestions: tell them you'll count to 5 and they'll come back to the room feeling refreshed like they've just had a fantastic sleep, but remembering that hypnosis is not sleep and they'll sleep soundly for the appropriate amount of time next time they go to bed to sleep, so 1 - every nerve every muscle every fibre becoming less and less relaxed; 2 - feeling a great surge of energy through your feet, up your legs and throughout your body; 3 - take a deep breath and fill your body with that life giving oxygen; 4 - feel that cool mountain water washing over your face and 5 - take a big stretch, open eyes, wide awake.

"Deep enough" depends on the deepening and is quite individual, both to the hypnotist and the subject. The only thing you can really do is suggest and test until you have them acting on suggestions that you feel are similar in "depth" to your PHS'.

Thanks for the help.

I've been studying the videos I have of handshake inductions and I've memorised the actual induction I want to use. Off to the mirror now.
