Videos of rapid/instant inductions

Just some few videos so everyone unfamiliar with this gets the idea.

Here is my take on the videos. What does the forum think?

- The phrase “In a second your going to be pressing on my hand and then your going to be hypnotised” sets up expectation.
- The commands “look at me now” “close your eyes” “take a deep breath in”(sometimes used) “follow all instrauctions” “listen to the sound of my voice” are designed to get focus and if said in quick succession are designed to overload the clients subconcious.
- “press on my hand” is designed to get the client following instructions in preparation for the hand drop and sets up a command response cycle
“harder, harder” designed to shut out all outside distractions and again get total focus on the words.
- The action of taking away the hand creates the shock which is then followed by immeadiately by the suggestion word “sleep”, sending them into an altered state.
- Deepening by placing your hand on the subject's forehead, then rocking it gently back and forth telling them this and at the same time “tell them this takes them deeper and the words that with each breath they take, each sound they hear is also sending them deeper”

These are my questions:

Question why does the word “sleep” have such a big impact on the client, if the word has not been set up to be acted as a “post hypnotic instruction”?

Question: In the second video it mentions about explaining the significance of the word sleep so the client knows what it means, but then the video also says if you get an ‘hypnotic contract’ going “are you willing to follow instructions” “are you willing to be hypnotised” they go automitacally when they hear the word sleep. Is it best to do both, or is it enough to give the ‘hypnotic contract’?

Question: As this is an instant induction is a pre-talk necessary to dispel someone’s fears about hypnosis?

I have not been able to get instant inductions to work without a pre hypnosis before but i have found they are still impressive. Well either they are impressed or scared even though i tell them i would never harm them or allow anyone else to harm them(truthfully). Has anyone tried another word that worked other than sleep or told their friend another word for sleep and had it work. i have been reading this forum for a long time and i find your chat extremely interesting and have learned a lot. thanks :D

So I've been watching that hypno-sculpture guy and his hand to head technique
and this is what i gathered so far:
1)Extend hand for a handshake
2)As soon as there hand touches yours, lift there hand to their forehead, while you are doing this, step into them and put your other hand on the back of their head.
4)as soon as there hand touches their forehead, say sleep
3)go into a deepening of some sort?

Does this sound right?

"why does the word “sleep” have such a big impact on the client"
Words are tied to the very experience that they RePresent, that is how we ascertain/comprehend the meaning of the communication.

"if you get an ‘hypnotic contract’ going ...they go automitacally"
yes, I'm not sure if it's cialdini's commitment and consistency theories of simply they've agreed to comply. or both.

" Is it best to do both, or is it enough to give the ‘hypnotic contract’?" I get commitment and I never mention sleep.

"is a pre-talk necessary to dispel someone’s fears about hypnosis?"
I think it's a good idea b/c even if they say they aren't afraid- they might have misconceptions. So you can say, "well I am glad you're confident hypnosis now can only be good for you. so you must already know that there's no way you'd give up any secrets, or do anything against your ethics/morals etc...knowing that certainly makes one feel much more relaxed. Now, here's a nice comfotrable chair, please sit all the way down into a trance..."

Have any intermediate or pro hypnotist out here tried the instant induction
where the person straight away grabs the hand and lifts it to the face?

Yes. A while back I dedicated a couple of days to doing these on the unsuspecting public, on the street, in shops and in bars. It worked often enough to know it works. If you do a bit of a preamble it works even more often.

Flush out those demons, as The Bard himself said and I often misquote

'Our doubts are traitors that make us oft lose what we might win by fearing to attempt'.

For years, ike Satantoystore I did not use the word Sleep. My thinking was that because hypnosis is not sleep, saying that word will just throw a spanner in the works. Plus I got into this via an 'ericksonian' route and he did a damn good job of convincing me that there was no need for the word sleep and that trance was much more useful.

However the more hypnosis I watched and the more I read, the more I realised anyone I respected in the field (other than Erickson) used the word sleep.

So one day I decided to start using it and found that i was very useful it certainly made instant and rapid inductions much more effective. But why? That is your question. There are numerous reasons.

Firstly whatever the subject thinks of hypnosis the chances are they associate the word sleep with hypnosis, the image of people appearing to be asleep with being hypnotised and they just seem to know what to do when it is said, close your eyes and relax. So it is important from the subjects own associations and understandings and also from the audiences point of view - they expect to see people zonking out on command.

The fact that hypnosis and sleep represent directly opposite states of mind in terms of focus of attention is neither here nor there.

The other reason according to McGill, who knew a thing or two about hypnosis, is that the mind instinctively knows the pathways to sleep. Every night we go to sleep and sleep leads to the subconscious phase of mind from which all hypnotic phenomena originate. In going into hypnosis you are in a way entering the realm of sleep, so putting someones attention there is a good thing. Many old schol inductions do little other than focus the attention and ideas on sleep and they work very well.

My own take is that we are simply dealing with someones internal representation or template of what 'sleep' means. Sleep in the context of a hypnosis show or session does not mean being unable to move or unable to speak, it means something else entirely and that something else is in effect the subjects onboard model for hypnosis. If you say relaxed state and there onboard model is something else entirely then you will not get them. If you say trance and they do not associate that with hypnosis then you will not get them. Sleep covers all bases because the subject seems to know that it doesn;t mean sleep like at night, just a deep relaxation of the nervous suystem or some other thing. Most stage hypnotists qualify this at the beginning anyway by saying you will be able to hear me and move around etc...

My advice is use the word sleep if you want to do rapid inductions. Commanding someone to 'go inside' or 'trance' is just not as effective.

Hi...

Will this handshake induction work as simple as it sounds?

Walk up to the subject.
Shake his hand.
Half way shaking, you pull his hand and command the word 'sleep'

The Rehearsal Induction

This generic rehearsal induction has been used for many years in hypnosis. You explain to your hypnotee in a step-by-step fashion exactly what you’re going to say and do and what affect it will have on them. Present it in a matter of fact tone. Rapport and pacing of current experience are presupposed.

This version uses rehearsal to create catalepsy. You literally rehearse, as many times as required until it is time for the real induction. Strangely you will never make it to the ‘real’ induction.

(Spoken to Hypnotee) what I’m going to do here in a moment is I’m just going to reach over like this, and I’m going to pick up your hand, and I don’t want you to go into trance, because I want to explain this to you…because this is something that will help you later on in going into trance…and then to have you come back out of trance we are going to move that hand back down like that. All your going to notice is that I’m going to pick up your wrist like this (Pick up wrist and speaking more softly but still at a regular conversational pace)…I’m going to talk to you in a certain way and as that hand reaches a certain point, you’ll notice a number of things happening that will let you know you’re going into trance…your eyes close your breathing will shift and you would go even deeper, and then to have you come back out of trance, we’ll move the hand back down like this. OK?

So I am not going to do it yet, I just want you to get the feeling, so if now’s the time to do it, all I would do is reach over like this, I would pick your arm up like that and stop at a point when you would go into a trance, probably notice then that your eyes would close at a certain point it’s going to stop all by itself. Then I’m going to move it back down. OK.

You have just added a few steps, small details. Pace their current experience.

Now if we were actually going to do it again, all I would do is reach over and I would lift up that arm like that and when that arm stops by itself (Their arm will probably remain suspended now even if you let go) and you know what to do, all the way in…that’s right…and your unconscious mind can follow exquisitely the suggestions with your conscious mind paying attention.

Now the question is how deeply into a trance can you go? With your eyes wide open (said increasingly softly) How much deeper can you go with your eyes wide open…That’s right….even higher…that’s right I want you to watch, stay awake even more focus until it’s time…that’s right…now all the way into a deep state.

Proceed to deepen trance, set up signals with hand, or simply give a post hypnotic suggestion and bring the hand down only as quickly as it is needed.

That’s right I don’t want that hand to drift down to your lap only as quickly as….

What occurs as you rehearse is you train their arm to respond. The third or fourth time you reach over it will begin to lift ‘all by itself’. Pace it. That’s right…you know how to do that….that’s right, say ‘that’s right.’ From that point on you can go wherever you wish to, there is no need for any further induction.

____________________________________________________________
As you can see there is a bit of 'ericksonian babble' in this because that is where I started with it, you dont have to use these exact words. Ultimately keep your language clean, pace anything they do that means they are going in, add a little more detail in each rehearsal and you will win with this every time.

This is a rapid induction I use for highly suggestable people and children.

Spoken to subject:
Did you realize, there's is a certain spot in the middle of my and your forehead, that works in such way, that if I put my finger on it, you will immediatly go into a trace(you will fall asleep, or something like that for children). If people don't go into a trance, they might have problems(nobody wants to have problems, so this helps. For children it's best to say something else, that something wonderful will happened or sth.). When the finger touches that spot eyes just close all by them self.
Then I put my finger somewhere on their forehead and say:SLEEP. But when dealing with children again it+s better to say something else.
I did this just an hour ago on my 6 years old neighbor. It worked flawlessly.

What do you think?

That is what I would refer to as a 'Power Induction'. It is reliant on not a lot more than your own personal ability to communicate that when you do 'x' then 'y' will occur.

Good Going Doc.
