What are the different types of psychology

Ah, so social proof is how you decide what is truth, what is worthy of consideration. Plenty of people make that mistake. Truth determined by what is popular.

I thought you said you were logical not social.

The number of “good posts” is irrelevant to what is true.

There were 10,000 “posts” that said the sun revolves around the earth. Galileo was the one “bad” voice branded a heretic.

You may wish to believe that you would be the arbiter of truth, capable of deciding that the only “good” post was Galileo’s 1 voice among thousands, but that is just the ego talking. Based on what you wrote, you would jump on the social bandwagon. You would believe the 10,000, because out of the 10,000 you would see many of them as “good” posts. At least you would find them more truthful than this single voice, telling the truth.

No worries, we all are influenced by social opinion. It is adaptive and generally helpful. But social proof is not an exercise in logic. It is an exercise in faith.

It "peaked" as a global science in the 20th century.
The main difficulty as I see it is sometimes neurotic conditions may be caused by physical illness. Such as encephalitis. On the other hand, pure personal trauma can cause similar symptoms. Hermit Crab Syndrome is an example of pure psychogenic causation.
Sometimes I think clinical psychology gets us not very far as the more you read, the more you see the lack of consensus.
It always amuses me if I watch Dallas re-runs on DVD that Sue Ellen sees a psychologist who just listens to her marriage problems. I suppose that's the type of practitioner who makes money.

I admit I was fascinated by two fictional psychologists in Columbo. One was a "take control of your space" guru who gave lectures to audiences. He had those two Dobermans Laurel and Hardy. The lectures made people think about conditioning and control words. He used a word game that uses a cassette recorder. You have to say the first word that comes to mind on hearing list of words. That then helps create a profile. For some reason all the psychologists and stage magicians in Columbo were the murderers. Meantime Columbo himself is a classic mild Asperger personality type who has pretty poor awareness of social norms.
