Hi SUGA having an upset stomach is a usual part of the panic experience. The reason for this is that during the 'fight or flight' non-essential functions like digestion (Sex drive, immune function, etc.) 'close down.

Eating and procreation are to do with long term survival and your body needs to survive in the immediate short term. You don't need to be eating a hamburger whilst running from a lion  so digestion 'switches off' as the short term emergency response takes over. Of course an upset stomach may also have been a survival response as predators can be put off eating us if we are covered in the products of our own upset stomachs :!:

Can constant anxiety and depression cause chronic constipation?

Hi Bluesky,

Welcome to the Forum.

Yes, anxiety can affect the digestion, including constipation - when we're anxious the blood flows away from the stomach and digestive system to the major muscles which are primed for the fight or flight response.

Other things can also cause constipation though, for example, dehydration.

Best wishes.

I don't get constipation at all, the except opposite. Drives me crazy. People at work already think I am nuts and this doesn't help much. I am always in the restroom. I also know there are certain foods I can't digest, corn being one of them. I have to watch what I eat because everything seems to upset my stomach.

I really don't think it is the food, I think it is me.
