Is this an eating disorder?

Postby Lonley » Sun Dec 30, 2012 11:10 pm

I get nervous when I think about eating and I don't like anything to eat now.

I know I am skinny and when I weigh myself and notice I have lost weight, I feel control.

I have lost all interest in eating now.

Is this an eating disorder?

Thank you[/list]

According to the information you've given which is very little I would guess that you're probably in the process of developing an eating disorder.

Can you provide more details?

You know that you are skinny right now, and when you weigh yourself you feel in control, so I would assume that you don't feel threatened at this point, how would you feel if weighed yourself and found out that you have gained weight? what would your reaction be like? has it happened before?

Sometimes people lose their interest in food, that doesn't necessarily indicate an eating disorder, I guess it has more to do with depression, how do you feel after eating food?

Hi,

Thank you for your reply.

When I weigh myself and have gained weight, I feel angry with myself and feel I must eat less. Sometimes I will record the weights on an app I downloaded so I can watch them.

After I have eaten I do feel disappointed in myself that I haven't stuck with the I'm not going to eat thought.

Quite often I generally don't feel hungry, which I don't mind in one way as I dont want to eat but it causes my parents to become angry at the fact I'm not eating.

Hi Lonely!

I'm sorry you're going through what seems like a difficult time. I'm not sure how old you are, but you mentioned your parents getting mad at you, so I'm going to assume you're under the age of 18. If you're an adolescent/teen young woman, your body is going through a ton of changes right now. Your hormones are surging through your body, your body is probably changing in ways you don't like, and it's all out of your control. This is absolutely normal. Not fun, but normal. Generally, the majority of females become more self-conscious and body conscious, too.

Some of the behaviors you're engaging in, such as the frequent weighing and anger/guilt when heavier, and skipping meals, are indicative of distress. While those are not sufficient in diagnosing an eating disorder, if you continue on the path you're going, you may begin to engage in more extreme behaviors. Eating disorders are no joke, and believe me, you don't want to go there. If you think you might be at risk, talk to your parents and see if they can find someone for you to talk to. You're obviously an insightful person given that you found this site and are asking for feedback, so that is great. Don't let those ED thoughts make you second guess yourself. :)

Stay strong!

You don’t need to get nervous on anything. Make a proper diet plan and eat according to it. Make sure you get on to exercise as per the plan.
