Hypnosis, suggestion and conversion disorders.

Postby liquid_dance » Wed Mar 12, 2014 6:20 am

I am working with a neuropsychiatrist who is looking for treatments for people with conversion disorders.

I did some reading on hypnosis and somatoform disorders, and it seems like it has been established that people with these disorders are much more suggestible than average. I haven't found a lot of really useful stuff so far.

Does anyone know of studies or methods that deal with this specifically? And does anyone have any experiences or insights that might help?

I'm going to bump this again, as the study is moving along. This study is taking place at an institution that is very open to new treatments and interventions, so if anyone has experience in this area it may be very useful.

I assume you've seen these?

I don't have any experience with conversion disorders, so I can't do more than speculate now, but I do find it interesting. If you guys are wanting someone to bounce ideas off, I'm happy to help.

Have you done a PubMed search for articles? If not, you can use your medical librarian to search for research on conversion disorders and hypnosis. There are thirty-four articles out there that I found, seven from the last ten years. It may help guide the study. Plus, presuming the neuropsychiatrist works at a hospital with a medical library, your librarian can do the research for you at no additional charge.
