Re: Very bad Arachnophobia!! Please help...

Hello amziou82, I think that you can work on this with hypnosis, or NLP, and without pinpointing the first time you were scared of or by a spider. Some use regression to cause or desensitizing the initial event, but not everybody. Other than seeing a hypnotist, there are a few options of the free-on...

Re: Did hypnosis to make me feel better naked; now can't res

But he also said, 'you will feel comfortable no matter how much or how little clothes you have on'. I wonder why that didn't take effect. Maybe it did. Perhaps your unconscious interpreted as you will feel comfortable no matter what (although comfort is relative), but since it also took on board th...

Re: Ask not to be hypnotized for known goals?

That's a totally valid response. Textbook even. I do wonder how many people are swayed? In my experience no one is, but then again, these people have already seen people for the issue the "normal" ways and weren't fixed, so maybe they were swayed the first time. I'm just a stubborn bastar...

Re: Ask not to be hypnotized for known goals?

If you want to try your hand at evil hypnotism while doing no harm, let me know and I can give you a way that simultaneously gives proof that they didn't "already want to" while also being utterly harmless. I would be interested in hearing you out. But yes, in a harmless manner. I do not ...

Re: Ask not to be hypnotized for known goals?

Hello JimmyH, Dave_I, [snip] Not to distract too much from the main points, but I've done the experiments. People pop up and reject suggestions if they notice, but not if they don't. I suspect Erickson wasn't trying very hard because he didn't actually want to succeed. That said, if the suggestions ...

Re: Ask not to be hypnotized for known goals?

What hypnotists do different is 1) having a model of what they're doing, and 2) having a frame that explicitly allows for "magical" change and can enhance expectation. The question I want to look at is "Why should we ever need that frame?" [snip] The answer to this question depe...

Re: Would hypnosis help my issue?

The problem with hypnosis is that it doesn't have a long lasting effect. Fully agree with you, just temporary effect So again I would ask, are you differentiating between the hypnosis itself, or the resultant changes stemming from it? Because if you mean the hypnosis or trance was just temporary, t...

Re: Would hypnosis help my issue?

Hello Jimmy, I mean any suggestions that don't fit well with the rest of their mind/context. Party tricks like handstick/amnesia/etc obviously have troubles there, but so can therapeutic suggestions if, for example, you symptom chase. However, they obviously don't *have to* have this issue. Well, su...

Re: Would hypnosis help my issue?

Hello Jimmy, and EmperorDude2 by proxy. If you mean the hypnotic suggestions (ala. hand stick, amnesia, hallucinations, etc.) not lasting long-term, I agree. If you mean the therapeutic results not lasting, I would call that into question. Hypnosis is often described as "bypassing the critical ...

Re: Would hypnosis help my issue?

For something that may be of more immediate use to London_Anne, below is a link to a Melissa Tiers video on neuroplasticity and has some strategies for sort of reshaping your behaviors. I think it is worth watching, and you may just find something in there that will really work for you in dealing wi...

Re: Would hypnosis help my issue?

Hello EmperorDude2, The problem with hypnosis is that it doesn't have a long lasting effect. Would you care to elaborate on that? Because, depending on what you mean by that, any of us may be able to find examples that would seem to disprove that. Again, it depends by what you mean. All hypnosis? Fo...

Re: Instant Induction for a subject's first time induction

I think a lot of it has to do with confidence. You can find countless videos showing (or purporting to) first-time inductions being done with instant inductions. Sean Michael Andrews and John Cerbone are two who specialize in shock inductions, although I think they are both pretty well-versed in the...

Re: Slow Setup of hypnosis

Okay, I read and watched more about hypnosis, and found out those long suggestability tests are nonsense. The purpose is to build up their subjects' expection only. Well, how much have you actually gone out and done? Because it is not solely to build up their expectation. Besides, building up their...

Re: I want to get good fast

Don Gibbons' site on Hyperempiria (sort of a sensory-based version of hypnosis, kind of) is worth checking out. I think it is nice to sort of keep in mind how far you can push hypnosis and make it an experiential, multisensory experience. His blog posting on alternate universes was pretty interestin...
