i have a question

Postby bananna » Sun Aug 08, 2004 6:05 pm

okay here's my question.
individuals come here to talk about their feelings and states of mind.
i have seen a few posts entitled suicidal. what happens if an individuals doesnt get a reply to his/her post?

this could push them over the edge. so in a sence what we do not say could be dangerous

Firstly, this is a forum and it's the nature of forums that a reply can't be guaranteed.

Having said that I think that people come here because it's a supportive community here and will usually get a reply.

I'd be interested to hear from other users.

i totally agree but whe someone is suicidal thats the last thing on their mind they want support and reassurance and sometimes it is not provided, or was to slow.

If someone wants an immediate response I would suggest that they contact an organisation such as the Samaritans, who provide support around the clock.

The Samaritans provide on-line support at http://www.samaritans.org/ and www.changeourminds.com.

i think that sites like these help people but sometimes they can make people worse. if i was suicidal and though this was my only way out and no one answered my silent cries for help then i would end it

Hi bananna,

In the same way that I wouldn't measure the effectiveness of a delivery van solely by it's top speed, I think speed of response is the wrong measure for the effectiveness of this forum.

A delivery van can be great at delivering goods, but it will always lose out against a sports car on a race track, and the sports car is useless as a delivery vehicle!

Hi Bananna

You may have read some of my posts if you have been reading the things written on this forum

I found this site when I was at my lowest and seriously thinking about suicide. I have found great support here and don't think it is the speed of replies that is important, but more what is said and the useful help that is offered.

I agree it would be very upsetting if no one replied when you are feeling that low but it has been my experience that someone will reply and the people here are very supportive.
