Good Morning Yessupply. CBT stands for Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, not "Intellectual Conduct Therapy", and wouldn't that be ICT. Besides there are distinctions to be made between the ideas of Intellectual Conduct and Cognitive Behavior, aren't there? My Intellectual Conduct only has to deal with the way I think about things and need go no further on my reflecting upon and contemplating the World Around me, and yes, I do it all the time, BU the Intellect is a poor tool to use against Anger. Intellect is a mental High Function but Anger is as Low as you can Go. Anger is Reptilian! The way to Anger Management is by using Cognitive Behavioral Therapy to in effect re-condition what are nearly Automatic Responses. And, yes, even Cognitive Behavioral Treatments are SHORT but that is only because Insurance will only pay to cover 10 Sessions, and then the Patient is thrown out to sink or swim on his or her own. But 10 sessions means only about 10 weeks, not three months yet, and if you ever tried to learn how to play a new musical instrument, well, how much of a virtuoso can you be in 3 months. One only knows the rudimentaries by then, right? After that the Patient is on his own to assign himself practice exercises. How many people do that? Yes, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy is the BEST school of Therapies out there, and have been proven to be effective, but I'd like to see the data for all these 10 Week Programs. Really, and I myself went through just such a program, and the Doctor insisted from the first session that I get familiar really fast with the best Self Help Books. Really, Anger is a lot like Alcoholism in that one needs to stay on top of it. One of the best Self Help Anger Management Authors, Ronald Potter-Efron, PhD, who wrote a number of books dealing from everything from annoying irritability to violent Rage, well, he wrote an interesting book entitled "The Angry Brain..." where he optimistically tells us that the brain is "plastic", that is, changeable, and even grows new Brain Cells, and disused parts of the Brain naturally re-wire to upgrade to new skills and tasks. But he also tells us that the Process is a slow one. No really solid and significant progress can be made before six months. That seems to be my experience with Musical Instruments. If one is an Angry Person, well, one has to do daily Practice on being a NATURALLY Calm Person... it is like taking Acting Lessons. No, Angry People can no longer be "Just Themselves"... which has always been a silly concept... any Human Being that 'Acts His or Her Self" will go about naked and dig into trash cans like a raccoon.
But this is only a short blurb coming from me. I have two essays down below, the most important one being "Anger Management Short Term and Long Term" and then the useful "Making a Better Personality For Yourself". Both of these are chock full of practice advise, where you just come and bring us rose colored inaccuracies and imprecision, but you probably mean well and so Thank You for your trouble. .
