Symbolic modelling

Anyone out there used this? By the use of careful questioing people's metaphors are developed and questioned in a way which is potentially helpful and therapeutic. See www.cleanlanguage.co.uk

It has clear links with NLP and hypnosis; by utilising the "metaphorical mind" which is seen as a general reality filter, some big changes are possible. I've certainly found it interesting and helpful so far.

Hi Paul. Looks like an interesting and informative site. I too find that by taking a clients metaphor that is locking them into an unhelpful way of thinking and developing it through questions, humour, etc I am able to help them to reframe their thoughts to a way that is much more helpful to them.
The psychotherapist Pat Williams describes story and analogy as 'soaring over the jagged rocks of reason.' Just like the Trojan horse it by passes the walls of conscious resistance and slips a new idea into the very heart of the arena where the problem thinking lays.
I am always amazed at peoples creativity when you encourage this way of exchange.
Have you heard UK new story telling CD by Rob Parkinson? It is a great sorce of new stories

Hi Jill,

thanks for the tip. You are right about story and metaphor bypassing "resistance". The great thing about this way of working is that it can be great fun and relaxing, which in itself creates new possibilities.

cheers
