Listening is monitored by what hemisphere?

If I'm not mistaken, the right part of our body is controlled by the left hemisphere of our brain and viceversa, so does something we hear with our left ear get fed to our unconscious while it gets fed to our conscious while we hear it with our right ear?

Hi grovelli, really good question

You are right that hemispheric brain regions control opposite body areas. So sound focussed into the left ear would have more influence over the right hemisphere of the brain. The right hemisphere has more to do with pattern recognition (such as 'intuition' etc.) so we could conclude that talking to the left side may have more influence over the right hemisphere functions which are more in tune with instinctive pattern recogntion.

However it also of course depends on what is being said not just what side it is said to. For example a logical, sequental list of items read into the left ear wold still appeal to left hemispheric function....and a poem read into the right lobe would still more appeal and more likely be processed by, the right hemisphere. However oppostite 'lobe listening' (My God what have I become-just listen to me-and not with your right lobe ) I guess would make it easier for the brain to function either in pattern or sequence.

So next time you have a phone reciever to your ear think about which ear it up against and what type of conversation you are having.

Thanks Mark,
I hoped so.
Your and Roger's hypnosis and relaxation tapes you sell on Uncommon-Knowledge.co.uk and self-hypnosis.co.uk and the downloads on HypnosisDownloads.com are the best hands down and when I listen to them I tend to keep the speakers to the left side of my body. Likewise I find myself using the phone receiver preferably on my left ear when I talk to friends and family while using the right ear on business calls.
What do you mean by saying, "My God what have I become"?
Ciao

Just an attempt at humour grovelli. Thank you for your comments regarding the hypnosis downloads :)

Hemispheric function and ear lobe side seems to make sense. I haven't found any research connected to this. If any body finds some please let us know. :D
