Well, the example given in the podcast, where people in the dance club experience the expectation of something coming which materialises when everybody realises where the downbeats are and so at that point that's a signal for them to start dancing, to me draws a parallel with hypnotic inductions/pos...

Thanks. The podcast really shed some insight. Looks like music is actually processed by the same brain areas as speech and both rely heavily on expectation fulfillment as a measure predicting the degree of likeability in relation to the incoming sounds. I can see a common thread with hypnosis.

Music

Is music processed by the same brain hemisphere that processes speech? Why does our mind/brain like music? I mean, music isn't essential to life so what mechanism makes it so that our mind/brain receives gratification in listening to it? Are there any research results on this topic?
