Hey desperate. I have been on a plant based diet (particularly in according with the book The Starch Solution by McDougall), and I have to say that I LOVE this way of eating. I also am avidly into calisthenics and can say this diet has benefited me in many ways. I imagine it has also helped me through the bad reaction I had from cannabis this last few months (hard to know with absolute certainty though). If you have any questions about that, please feel free to ask. :)

Hello bullfrog :) I was looking for general principles for healthy living specially focusing on mental health and mood disorders. Actually I know some and applying those are not so easy as that require will power. The diet you mentioned allows some meat I think. It sounded to me very specific. I can't adapt a vegetarian diet it's not for me. Actually I was looking for light reading on healthy nutrition like the book named mood cure. I will have a look at starch solution now thank you :)

That definitely makes sense. I admit, I am not entirely versed on diets as they relate to mood disorders. However, I do know that diets that reduce inflammation provide great mental health benefits. I believe there is enough evidence in plant based eating to show a great reduction in inflammation. However, it does require the elimination of meat, which it sounds like you would not be too happy to get rid of. haha. Hey, I understand. Forgive me as I didn't read every post yet, but has anyone mentioned milled flax seed yet? My friend, who has struggled with depression all her life, says that flax seed in specific (and omega 3's in general) are an absolute must.

As the point i mentioned at my previous post there ıs excessive controversy about what works and what doesnt. I took omega3 for 3 years continuosly from fish oil. Recently ı quit because ı thought ıt doesnt work. You say ıt works thats confusing. Changing the source from fish to a plant may make it work? You mean that? I think solgar turkey has flax seed oil ı may take it if its to work. Im trying to eat as much as possible plants in my daily life but ı dont think ı can give up with chicken and fish. I gave up with meat three years ago have no intention to eat that for a long time. I dont have a a inflamation ı think but anyways ı will try to reduce animal sources in my diet and increase plants.

There is definitely a lot of controversy over omega-3 OILS, specifically fish. I don't promote OIL. I promote the WHOLE food. So in the case of omega 3's, I highly recommended milled flax seed as the oil is held intact within the environment it was made in and also has the added benefits of "lignans". Google that word along with "health benefit" and you will see what I mean. If you also google "flax seed" and "nutritionfacts", the first website that appears shows various videos done about flax seed purely from medical journals ONLY. No articles or books, only medical research journals.

But besides that, I think increasing plants in your diet is a brilliant idea even if you keep on your fish and chicken. Increasing plants in my life was the greatest thing I ever did for my health. :)

ok will have a look at benefits of flax seed oil ı have already decided to buy that anyways. By the way ım reading the book you recommended ıts good and interesting. Guy develops theory based on benefits of starch ı think its some exageration but there may be benefit at increasing starch. Interestingly ı was consuming lots of brown rice lately ıt seems ı was doing beneficial thing to my health..

Correct. I do NOT recommend flax seed OIL. I only recommend milled flax SEED. Oil's are technically highly processed foods as everything is taken out of them and only fat is left. Hence the seed itself is whole and much better.

And glad you eat brown rice. That stuff is great! And pretty awesome you were willing to read a few pages that were available online.

I'll see if I can find where I was reading about the relationship of flax seed to mental health.
