Help me understand

Postby Soledad » Sat Mar 18, 2017 8:37 am

Hi everyone I'm a 24 y.o woman and I've been having anxiety for several years now. The thing is yesterday, my dad told me I had an appointment scheduled to see a therapist, and I don't know why I felt as if I was going to faint when he told me that...litteraly felt like the most shocking news and I don't understand why? It was expected and that's not something major so I don't get it. The worst is that I still feel shaky

well it could be that you sort of feel like your failing. sometimes people would see it as a sign of weakness to go to therapist.

or you could be afraid to unburden yourself and let out your inner most secrets to a stranger.

it's pretty common that people would feel like this. you should be fine though. most therapists are quite gentle and experienced at listening to other people's problems. once you get past the initial discomfort you'll be fine.

also the difference between how you are feeling now & before could be that it didn't seem real before. just like an event that is happening in the far off future in your imagination. whereas now it feels a little more solid & like this is actually happening.

but again, it'll be fine. it's largely just fear of the unknown.

Hi, thank you for your reply.
I think you're right , it got real now I guess and there's definitely fear of the unknown. but I think I didn't like the way he told this to me. In my head it felt like he was announcing something more dramatical
