Hello everybody!
Was just wondering what everyone does to keep themselves occupied during this time of social distancing and shelter in place. Aside from the virus itself, there is also the boredom. Here is my strategy anyway, for what it's worth.
The company I work for has been classified as "necessary", so while other establishments are dark and empty, mine is still humming right along. Now, don't get me wrong; I am grateful to have work at a time when many do not. That said, my wife is a teacher, which essentially means she is sequestered at home, while I am more mobile. She is more sensitive to cabin fever than am I, but even though she has the freedom to hop into her own car, there are very few places right now to go to.
So one day, we decided to revive an old custom: the Sunday Afternoon Drive. We've been around long enough to remember $0.35 per gallon gasoline, and this was a family tradition. So every couple of nights, we jump into the car, take her through the Starbucks drive-thru (she LOVES her coffee), and then just drive for a while. No destination, just drive. You'd be amazed how just that little bit of time out of the house makes a world of difference in our attitudes, our energy levels and things in general. For me, it was a good idea. For her, it was SALVATION. And when we get home, I just grab my guitar and noodle for a while.
How does everyone else deal with the boredom? I'd love to hear your stories.
