We've heard that forcing a smile onto your face will actually initiate a chemical reaction in your brain that will in turn lighten your mood. I suggest that the same idea applies here. Consider Harold Hill's "think system" from The Music Man. I hate to use the phrase, “fake it ‘til you make it", but I have found that if I go into a situation acting like I have confidence (whatever that looks like), I end up finding real confidence, because my body and behavior convince my mind to think so. This has helped in every job interview and every time I've had to be in front of people. I still get nervous, that feeling doesn't disappear, but if ACT like I'm the guy who never gets nervous in these situations, then that is the image I convey. In turn, I gain ACTual confidence from the success of the experience.

Just a personal theory.
