3 questions:
1)What are you eating throughout the day? People have a tendency to underestimate the amount of kcal they take in. For instance jogging for 3 miles would probably cost your body 700kcal (depends on your size and speed of course). And doing sit ups kills virtually no energy. So if you took in a 2800 Kcal daily meal intake, you will gain weight. Whether that is muscles or fat, only you could tell.
2) how hard do you work out? If you are working really hard your glycogen level will go up and retain more muscles and fluids in your skeletal muscle system. It's not uncommon for me to gain 3-4 pounds after a 40 hour 100 miles trek, the weight however drops off in no time as the majority is glycogen (carbs stored in your body to provide power needed for athletics pursuit).
3 how much rest are you getting? Getting less the. 6hours sleep have been known to lead to water retention. On the topic of water retention, what is your sodium intake and alcohol intake, both wreak havoc on us aspiring Adonis.
