Help me understand

Postby isquared » Sat Jun 12, 2004 1:03 pm

I am looking to get a better understanding of my personality type/profile in order to make some improvements in areas that are holding me back in all areas of my life. I've had a normal childhood and I'm currently in my early 30's. I would say that I am an introvert with the following specifics:

Need to be liked by others.
Lack of confidence.
Fear of being judged.
Fear of confrontation.
Social Anxiety in certian situations.

Can anyone help me understand why I experience these thing, where I can get some information that will help me better understand and overcome these areas? Is this a standard psycological profile? Is it common? What can be done?

I feel this is holding back my career and impacting my social/family life.

Thank you.

Hi isquared,

Welcome to the Forum.

There is no standard psychological profile - one of the joys of the human race is that we're all different!

You ask why you are experiencing those things - apart from this being an almost impossible question to answer, there are often many factors that make us the way we are, it's also not a very helpful question. It's more beneficial to think about the way that you want to be and the changes you will make to get there.

You may find it useful to look at this article about 7 Basic Human Needs for wellbeing, and at this website on Building Confidence and benefit from some of the hypnosis sessions at Hypnosis Downloads.

Let us know how you get on with these, and perhaps you might consider seeing a therapist who is experienced in these areas - we can help point you in the right direction!

Best wishes
