Defensive personality / behavior as a neutral / positivtrait

Postby tomcattheboon » Tue Jan 22, 2013 5:30 am

Hello, every time I try searching Google for some information, I am bombarded with results that are about the negative behavior known as being 'defensive'. I.e over reacting, highly sensitive, emotional etc...

What I'm looking for is something related to individuals who are defensive in their approach to the world, as a form of strategy, rather than being offensive, assertive, or aggressive.

What I'm trying to say is that I'm looking for any information, studies, articles, explanations about individuals who are 'defensive', but from a positive view point. I.e calm, peaceful, but yet strong, responsive.

I hope that I've been able to explain this clearly. I know that success in life or sports, or anything is not just about being a 'go getter', or 'hard hitter' but also about learning to be prepared, to watch and wait for what's coming instead of going after it.

So am I searching for the wrong word? Is there a more appropriate term that is used by professionals for people who use defense as a positive trait?

A defensive person is basically a person who is defending himself. Hence a person with a low self-esteem may be inclined to be defensive. Is that, what you are looking for?
