Hypnosis & Tinnitus

Postby moondaddy1 » Tue Aug 21, 2018 1:48 pm

Does anyone on here have any info, documented or anecdotal, on the effectiveness of hypnosis as a treatment for tinnitus? Best of all someone who has or had tinnitus and used hypnosis to help treat it.

Done a couple of searches on it of course, but couldn't find anything that wasn't ambivalent and inconclusive. Thanks.

As far as I am aware there is no reliable hypnotic treatment for tinnitus. The sufferer first needs see their GP/Audiologist/ENT consultant to identify what underlying issue could be causing it e.g. hearing loss. If there is no organic cause then hypnosis can be used to establish emotional links e.g. stress, anxiety, depression and help treat these. Reframing any events when it started could also be useful. For those who are struggling to cope with their tinnitus, relaxation techniques can be used to help treat issues like insomnia, concentration or alertness to the “noise”. Habituation can diminish the intrusiveness of the noise.
