Introducing Stamp Out Suicide!

Postby StampOutSuicide » Tue Mar 04, 2008 8:50 am

Hello all,

Thought a brief introduction was appropriate and might help explain the username.

With the help and support of others a web based resource was developed 'Stamp Out Suicide!'

In brief, the Stamp Out Suicide! website contains pages concerned with suicide awareness and suicide prevention and pages intended to be helpful to the people of Northern Ireland, Republic of Ireland, Scotland, England and Wales. The site provides points of contact for those feeling down, depressed and / or suicidal and for those bereaved by suicide.

Looking forward to making contributions.

Sometimes suicide is the only option in a hopeless situation. Therapists should not impose their personal views on patients. Some people need help in overcoming their fear of dying to empower them to act. 8)

'Therapists should not impose their personal views on patients.'

I agree, but what has this got to do with a website offering a service? How does this constitute an imposition? It is no more of an imposition than an advert which can equally be ignored if of no interest.

'Some people need help in overcoming their fear of dying to empower them to act.'. That may be true, in which case I would suggest that 'Stamp Out Suicide' will not be top of the list of places to go for help.

It doesn't constitute an imposition and thank you for pointing this out. It is a resource that exists to provide information and links to help and support, if people want to access them.

Hi,
As someone who has their ups and downs i have to say that the name of your website is fairly intimidating, i would not visit it as it sounds like you are an anti suicide group but not in a good way, like an anti abortion group or such like, i appreciate online support, but the name of yours sounds confrontational and aggressive,

The website simply provides information and resources.

The site is called Stamp Out Suicide! because we had considered a walkathon to promote suicide awareness and support suicide prevention. As it happens, I will most likely be taking part in the Belfast Marathon (but only walking part of the way).

People should find the site helpful, particularly if they live in the UK or Ireland, and we just want people to know that it is 'out there' if they need it.

I feel this is a very useful and worthwhile website and as others have pointed out, if its not to someone else's liking they dont have to log on.

I respect all individuals have the right to take their own life, however, they also have the right to access help too, some people believe its the only way out when often there are other things worth trying first, if they only had the information.
